Car Battery: time to replace?

Hi guys, I googled + searched this site for the answer but could not find the appropriate info.

My OEM ('02 maxima) battery died the other day, no indications it was on its way out. The manual says that I might need to top of some (if not all) the cells w/ distilled water.

Will this prolong the life of the battery? or am I soon destined to buy a new battery anyway.

Thanks in advance for your help.

My battery dies on me every two years. No warning, just will not start. Get your battery replaced at a dealership and any battery that is purchased later is $25.

What? If a battery is replaced at a dealership, any battery costs 25 ducks? I never heard of that deal..........
