Front speaker installation on 4th gen?

I've been searching for hours and can't find a how to for installation of front speakers. So I have a few questions.
Should I get some components or just 6.5" speakers? Where is the crossover or bass blocker for the factory tweeter?
What is the deepest speaker I can fit?
Do I need spacers or brackets to screw in new speakers or are the holes lined up for aftermarket speakers?
Any help is appreciated, I want to have it all before I tear it apart.

Gamble, I fully replaced my entire BLOSE system in my 98 a few months ago - the factory BLOSE mid/tweeter assembly, the mid has the amp / x/over built into a small black plastic box that is part of the OEM spacer ring.

I install a set of Fli Audio comp6.5 6 1/2" comps to replace the OEM. The mid screwed in direct, and I gutted out the little box for the oem amp, and placed the inline x/over that came with the comps inside of it. I then removed the factory tweets from the oem brackets, and screwed the new ones on like the OEM were.

So, for the doors, yes, they will mount up with little mods.

The rears were another story - the holes were there, but I have to redrill the speaker holes and elongate them, to get the screws to line up (since I used Fli Audio in the rear again, and they are a euro spec'd size).

If you're running BLOSE, pay SUPER close attention to the wiring and routing. I did a complete rewire, and ran a seperate amp in the trunk, but to cheat, and simplify trying to fish wire thru the door jambs, i pulled the colors from install sites, and used those, ran the speaker leads from the amp, to under the dash to where the OEM wires ran, then, spliced inside the doors, to those colors.

It worked great, sounds super clean, and 1000x's better than the OEM system...

If your budget allows, I would get some components and a dedicated amp to power them. Powering components off the HU's power will not do them justice.

Regular coaxials will still be a nice upgrade from the stock stuff.

I found some 6.5" pioneer speakers for free from a friend so I'm going to slap those in for the time being.
I had 6.5" type r components with an amp in my eclipse, but I wasn't too impressed. Sounds just as good with a different headunit and no amp. But maybe because now I'm hearing the type r's weren't very good and the type s was much better a few years back.
I think I'm going to go with alpine type s 6.5" components. They are only like $78 on ebay and $79 from buy.com
