STEERING WHEEL CONTROLS

I have replaced the factory head unit with the alpine W205 double din. By doing this i lost my steering wheel controls. PAC (pacific accessory company) make an adaptor for this. Has anyone tried this? Does it work?

Also, and my main issue with this, Is i lost my Trip button on the steering wheel quit working also. Is this normal? My buddy who owns the electronics shop said it would be stupid if they ran the button through the factory headunit.... Has anyone else ran into this issue?

Thanks to any help you guys can offer.

This was cross posted in 5th Gen and answered there but here's the answer for search purposes:

Yea juuuust went through this. On the smaller harness that connected to the bottom of the HU with 4 wires coming out of it you will need to ground out the brown wire with the white stripe on it. Use a chassis ground for it I found the harness ground to be rather worthless.

As for the steering wheel controls I wholly endorse the Axxes auto controller.

Once I got the ground thing figured out it was able to figure out what car it was in and automatically programmed itself.

Yes, it doesn't work as well as the factory setup did but it works well enough for me. The only thing I really miss is the station preset up/down from the steering wheel. Otherwise, I have volume up/down, source select (radio/cd/sd/etc.) and track advance/repeat/radio dial up-down. I also read about a delay the PAC units have It's like a 1 second/half a second delay from what a gather.

BTW for comparison purposes the HU I'm using is the Pioneer AVH-3200BT.

Well I appreciate everyones input but someone smashed out my window and took my head unit and amp last night so at this point its all irrelevant. :/ new window was $185 + new tint on it. Debating on even screwin with replacing it or just staying stock.
