Subwoofer: Sealed + Ported
Subwoofer: Sealed + Ported
Thought I'd ask,
Has anyone installed a sealed and ported box together for one system? I was just thinking if it were possible to catch the really low frequencies and then have another sub ported to catch the higher ones.
Or would the sound just be f***ed up?
Thoughts?

a sealed and ported box will just yield a pseudo bandpass enclosure (where one side of the speaker is in a sealed chamber, and the opposite side is ported.l
but yeah, a properly designed AND built ported box will provide plenty of output. The sub's frequency response varies from driver to driver, and the box design can influence this factor as well.

I'll try out a tuned box. Thanks.
I ran ported boxes for years with good results (big sound, nice hit), but when doing my maxima, I went instead with a sealed 12 for overall sound quality. For the sound quality, musicality, it works well for many kinds of music. I doubt I will be using a ported box again anytime in the near future. The 12 is big enough for good response at lower levels while the sealed enclosure helps keep the base fairly "tight." I have Focal speakers at 80hz and up in the front.
