Crossover/components question

what exactly does the crossover do in a component speaker setup and how do u configure it, wiring? i will most likely be putting 5 1/4 or 6 1/2 components in the front end of my 92. Whats the proper way to mount the crossover? (ill probably be putting it inside the door somewhere) And im mounting the tweeter in the a pillars. max'n out, youd probably be helpful here

if you are going to mount the tweets in the a pillar, don't put the crossover in the doors. you'll have extra wiring that is not needed that way. just put the crossovers where they will fit and wire from there. I put mine behind the head unit b/c you could fit a body in that cavity back there on a 5th gen. Not sure about the '92, but you can "show" them if you want or just hide them ... under the seats maybe or in the dash.

The units are pretty much self explanatory. You put the signal wires in, and then wire the components up at the xover. Not much more too it. If you do put it in the door, just put them on the inner skin and not the outer skin. This will make sure that water won't short it out. Also, make sure you mount it as high as possible on the door so if the drain hole ever gets clogged and water sits in the door ... it won't short out.

Typically most passive xovers are high and low pass meaning usally they run 3k up to the tweeter and low would be 3k down to the mid. You run a full line signal to the input of the x over and low to the mid and high to the tweet unless there byamplable then you can do some other configs.
