making my own rca patch cords....

i have some questions....

1. about roughly what guage is each wire in a standard rca patch cord???
2. i'm planning on using cat 5 cable to make these rca patch cord....should i make one cord with all 4 pairs in that cat 5 or make a one pair with the 4 pairs in the cat 5(two pairs per cord)???
3. in theory cat 5 is suppose to reduce induction of noise for high speed data transfer...will this same theory work for car audio purposes???
4. or should i just make the rca patch cord out of speaker wires???
5. in the standard rca patch cord....are they twisted internally??? never cut one apart to examine it...but i do know that each cord contains two wires...so one pair contains 4 wires....

Just wondering

Why do you want to make your own patch cords?

Category 5 Cable has been used for lots of wiring in home audio, including patch cables, in the past. I do not have a lot of detail regarding how many twisted pairs you should be using. However, I would recommend that you use shielded Cat 5 vs. unshielded Cat 5. This will further reduce the liklihood of you picking up any EMI through the run. You might post the same question on some of the Hi-Fi forums/newsgroups and see what response you get. Good luck!
