Sporadic VSS signal
Sporadic VSS signal
Hey everyone,
I have a problem that I can't seem to find any info about. I have done searching with no luck. I added an OEM navi to my I30 as others here have done. Everyhting was fine until I started to lose the VSS signal.
I tapped the VSS signal behind the cluster as required by any navi equipped radio. Shortly after the install I started to lose the VSS signal after about 20 mins of driving. Sometimes it would come back on its own, other times it would be lost for a while. Sometimes when the signal was lost I noticed that turning on the car's lights would start the VSS signal again. However, that tricked no longer seems to work. I am not sure why this worked, except that maybe the wiring harness is bad (?) and b/c the connection for the lights and VSS signal are in the same harness, that triggerd the VSS signal?
I have checked the connections and they seem to be fine. I have also switched out the navi controller portion of the system and the issue remains. Although I have switched the navi controller portion, I am using the same faceplate b/c I painted it and want it to match (the face is removeable by removing a few screws). Could the faceplate be the issue? Oddly, it hasn't had the VSS signal for two weeks and last night it started to work again.
I guess I need to:
- recheck the wiring and connections
- try the second faceplate
- check the wiring harness for damage
Any experience with this, or other suggestions? I have removed the system so many times to troubleshoot, etc. that I am dreading doing it many more times. Thanks in advance.
