Really considering upgrading the METRA kit.. opnions needed

Hi guys,

I have used the Metra 70-7550 with a Clarion DFZ675MC for the past 3 years, the sound is actually good when loud, but VERY noise at low volume, and it aggravates me.

I pulled out my system today and confirmed, I do have (2) sets of RCA available @ 2Volts.

I am wondering if I should use a Bose kit utilizing my RCAs so that my sound quality would improve. Are the 2V pre-amps enough for that?

Should I consider another kit? I researched about the METRA 70-7551 (utilizes the RCA) but it seems like 2V may be too low, does that confirm?

What other options I have in terms of bose-conversion kits? Would the PAC ROEMNIS2 be an improvement over the METRA?

Thanks in advance!

Hey buddy!

2v is too low for the Bose system. You cannot use the 70-7551.

You need to be using a line output converter.

How is your HU currently wired in?

Currently I am using the 70-7550, so it takes the amp'ed signal and send it to the Bose. High volume quality seems okay, but it hums / has noise at low volume.

So I have the follow up question: can I use the 2V outputs with ANOTHER bose connection solution or really the 2V wont work with the BOSE, no matter the adapter kit?

So you're sending an amplified signal to an amp that is looking for a pre-amped signal. Wow, installer clearly didn't know what they were doing.

Get a line output converter.

What other 'solution' do you have in mind?

The installer in this case was virtually Maxima.Org: I came here, asked for help selecting a Bose-kit and was told the Metra 70-7550 would work. I purchased the parts and installed myself.

I think it was always implied the 70-7550 kit would not the best solution, and I got tired of it and want to upgrade.

I would like to know if any of the other Bose-kit would work better with the 2V output.

Are you SURE you have the Bose system? If you are, get a line output converter.

That's what you need, and that's the right way your HU should be wired into your car, based on the information you've provided.

Yes, I have the bose system. And I'll give it a try, any links to this line output converter? And is this converter the connection kit to the Bose?

If I remove the Metra kit I am currently using, I'll need another kit to connect to the Bose system, unless this "line output converter" comes with it.

Thanks mate!

I ran 2v pre outs into the the factory bose system in my 2007 for a little over a year. The only problem is a quiet high-pitched whine (due to sending unbalanced signal to a balanced input on the amp), but you can't hear the whine if the music is at conversation volume or above.

I actually didn't use the 70-7551 either. I simply soldered on RCA ends to the speaker leads from the NIRD-01.

I did add an Alpine Imprint Audio Processor which upgraded the Alpine Navi to 4v Preouts, but the volume didnt change much at all.

You have to remember that the preouts only hit their max rated voltage when the deck is running at max volume.

I have an 02 GLE with Bose head unit, do I need that line converter if I use the 70-7551 harness?

That deck has 4v preouts. You'll be fine with 70-7551 only, no need for LOC.

Back about a year ago, I got a JVC HU with preamp voltage of 5V. It was still too quiet.

Haven't messed with it since. I did get a LOC, it sounded "good" but the original Bose headunit sounds best, so I haven't messed with it since.

YMMV, but even at 5V it was WAY too soft.

Yeah, all these threads saying the 4V outputs will work aren't stating that it will be too quiet, and wont have good quality bass. Get the PAC-ROEMNIS2. I did and wasted the time and money, only to end up ordering a PAC-ROEMNIS2. Do it right the first time, I learned the hard way

So you brought back a year and half old thread just to flaunt your ignorance or did you have something else in mind?

Lol, my ignorance? Wasn't referring to anyone specifically as a half *** installer, I meant the method of install. How is it ignorant? I used the information provided on this site, and it didn't work out. I gave my two cents after finding out some information, because even at 4 volts, it's not enough. Pioneer AVH-X4500BT is what I have and it's not working. I tried grounds, different grounds, ran over to A-Pillar as you suggested. Brought up a year and half old thread because there's no communication on this site. People get pissed when you ask questions, and make new threads. Members talk **** because you want to have some feedback or just simply talk to someone about an issue rather reading old *** threads.

Why don't you give some details around your particular install? I've installed hundreds of head units in Maximas. Same process every time. NEVER had an issue unless the deck was falsely advertised as 4v+ - which I have seen.

I posted a new thread in regards to it, but it is hard to get any feedback or input without getting flamed I see. I have been a member on this site since my 97 maxima days in 2003, and I dont remember it ever being so hard to communicate with the community. Im sorry, I wasnt implying you or anyone on here is a half-*** anything

I've replied to your thread. Something doesn't sound right but can't quite figure what it is just yet.
