Hello, I've just acquired a 2000 Maxima, and I'm trying to figure out how to add a subwoofer / amp to the factory radio. I do not have Bose. I tried googling and saw topics about this, but none specified for a Maxima.

Hoping you guys can help - how do I add a sub/amp to factory radio?

pick up an LOC, or Line Output Converter, from ebay or some 12v store. They're cheap. This will convert the high level signal from any speaker to low (or RCA). You'll need to find an ignition/ACC wire to run for your amp turn on, this is easiest if you have lack of tools to go straight to the car's 12v plug cigar lighter. Wire up the rest of the amp as you would normally.

 

especially since you dont have bose. i would get something like this. it will improve the bass from the stock signal. a loc only converts the signal.

I doubt he wants anything that pricey... If he was to get that he might as well swap the head

I picked up the line out converter today. Install looks pretty straight-forward. I just have one question about the LOC. You have to splice wires for left and right speakers. Thus, I'll remove the OEM head unit and begin to look at wires (leave the LOC behind OEM head unit in dash) - I am going to use quick connects for the wires, but how do you figure out which wire is which? Wiring diagram available for this?

 

I got the metra LOC if it helps.

 

you can combine the wires with the black stripes, and this will leave you with the non stripes which you can combine together as well - then you only need to grab one speaker pair (sub is mono anyways)

as far as what colors for speakers, there are two plugs for nissan non bose back there, one plug is bigger than the other. the smaller plug are your rear speakers, there are 4 wires or 2 speaker signals in that plug. have an old speaker laying around? play some music through the deck and touch the test speaker's leads to the wires, you'll find sound through one of the pairs. Or if you'd rather, and if you have a multimeter, test that way. good luck

while you're back there, you might as well tap a remote lead for turning your amp on and off. Run it with the RCAs right back to the amp. You'll need a meter to test, or you may be able to find a diagram.. look around the FAQs. You'll want to use the Ignition/acc wire..

 

Couldn't you theoretically run the remote wire from an add a fuse in the fuse box that turns on with key on? Didn't have a chance to work on the system today , was working on clay bar
