Upgrading stock speakers

Alright I'm a novice when it comes to stereo equipment..
I was wondering if you guys could point me in the right direction..just the interior speakers first then I'll do subs later..I've been looking at some component pairs but I dont know what I should go with...I want to go with a component in the front and full range in the rear..
I already have a alpine 4channel amp waiting as a gift from a friend..

People mention to me kenwood, mtx, alpine, kicker and someone was stressing to me that sound ordnance is really good but I dont know..
I know for a fact that I want a component up front and full range in rear..
Any suggestions would be great along with prices...
I'll post some links on what I find

I'd look into the Focal Access series speakers. They are AMAZING entry level speakers and are within your budget. Just make sure you have decent amplification and you'll be a happy camper

First question.

Do you have Bose? If so, you CANNOT simply replace the speakers.

2nd thing, Go to Crutchfield, but don't buy from them without checking prices. They are usually much more than other places.

^^ Agreed

I usually find authorized dealer within a good distance and most places (that i've went to at least) are willing to negotiate a price. A couple weeks ago I was able to grab a Rockford p400-4 for $150+ tax which Crutchfield sells for $299.

You cannot replace the speakers with aftermarket and continue to power them with the Bose amplifier.

If you're getting a 'system' hooked up them I'm assuming you're installing an amp for your speakers - and if this is the case I'm sure you're fine.

I just installed some Polk MM651 in the front and will likely buy another set for the rear. They were only $105 and sound awesome. The component version is closer to $200 but apparently don't really sound much better.

yep. The tweets are on a pivot.

I plan on making some angled rings to point the entire speaker towards my ears as opposed to my feet.

Infinity 2-ways sound good. Polks are good too. I would upgrade the stock stereo too.

Yes the infiniti 2-ways sound good, but the point a couple people are trying to make i think here is the fact that maxima's, 4th gen and up have the rear speakers in the doors, as opposed to on the rear deck, so technically you will NEVER get the sound you want out of them, because you have nothing aimed towards your ears. Don't cheap out on sound because that just makes me sad, shop around and get some good components in the front, and cheap out on the rears, because to tell you the truth you will NOT hear the rears at all.

Are you suggesting they wouldn't sound any better if mounted on-axis?

I'm trying to pick out speakers to upgrade my 98 non-bose maxima. Do 4-way speakers require running more wires vs 2-way? In particular I'm looking at the Pioneer A1684R.

Also, crutchfield says the A1684R and the D1602R are incompatible with my car, even though they're the correct size and depth as far as I know. What's the reason for this? Can I still make them work? Apparently the 5.25" version - D1302R - is compatible, but not the 6.5"?

And which of the above three speakers will sound better with a Pioneer DEH-33HD receiver? Will the higher wattage speakers be quieter due to the low continuous rms of the receiver?

Thanks for any help, sorry that I have to post here since I can't create a new thread.

No additional wires are necessary for 2 way, 3 way, or 4 way.

ANY standard 6.5" will fit. Crutchfield isn't 100% correct on the compatibility sometimes.

An aftermarket head unit will make your system sound better, period. In fact, if you keep your factory speakers and just upgrade the head unit, then even that will make your factory speakers sound better.

First reply 14 to go. Lol.

My Name is Brian w/ a 2k se non bose w/ a oe head unit which is ok for me. My rr speaker is dead so I wanted to do an inexpensive upgrade (not a bangin system like the old days when I was young. I just want a little clearer & a little more base b/c now I have none for my classic rock (yes im old but not that old).
I was comparing Sound ordnance p65 two way 34.99 free shipping after $15 credit from crutchfield. They have many good reviews and good base (for a 6.5). or
Walmart has Scoche hd6503 3ways for 29.99 pt.

Is one pair better than another or any better suggestions for this or close $? Do I need to replace all 4 b/c I read here you can't hear the rear doors anyway & I am 1/2 deaf in my right ear. I am thinking any new polypropline set in the front & move a couple of the 6.5 to upgrade the rear a bit or do I need to break down & get 2 pairs?
Can I put the front doors in w/o the supplied brackets b/c I know I will need them for the rear doors or do I at least need an two pairs of brackets?

Sorry for the wind. Brian

You need 4 brackets, one per door, and you might as well get all 4 speakers - 2 pairs.

As for speaker selection, it's really up to you. Personally I'd go with the Sound Ordinance speakers - I don't know if I'd trust Scosche speakers - they're known for the install accessories, not speakers. But then again, the price point is fairly low so you're not getting a ridiculous speaker to begin with. It will do the job.

Is it possible the no sound comming out of my right rear speaker is anything but the speaker itself? Is there a way for me to check w/o removing the door pannel?

Very possible it's your head unit.

No. I'd swap the speaker with one from another door to see if it changes anything. Removing the door panel is a 3-4 minute task, tops.

Agreed, of course buying 1 speaker is like buying one shoe. I could switch the fronts to the rears and upgrade the fronts but then i need the mounting rings. will I notice a difference upgrading between the factory 6.5 or the Sound Os in the rear?

You never said anything about replacing with aftermarket - I was assuming you'd find a used OEM speaker and install it.

Mounting rings really are not a big deal.

You'll notice an increase in sound quality but probably a decrease in volume - aftermarket speakers like to be amped to truly sing, and OEM HU's just don't cut it.

I am going to wait for a couple of week for Crutchfield to put the p65's on sale again. The salesperson said they sell a truckload of them b/c they are made specifically for Crutchfield via their specs & they equal the sound quality of a midprice speaker.

If they're the same size, sure. If not, you'll have to cut.
