My partner in crime at work is at the CES show out in Las Vegas (Where vendors come out and show off their new stuff)and is going to let me know when he gets back. My DirecTV rep said hopefully sometime this year.

It's out. we've got 4 or 5 of them in the shop now, and have done installs on 2 or 3.

the only problem is that the dishes are still huge.. the ones we have are an automatic-following type of dish that rotates and changes angles as you're driving to track the sattelite. works really cool.
the only drawback is that it won't fit on a passenger car. they're about 4ft across and 2 ft tall.. It's a big plastic dome that covers the dish and electronics. you put the receiver inside the car, and the dish does what it needs to follow the satellite.

We've done installs on several travel trailers, my boss's race car hauler (big semi w/ about half a dozen TVs inside), a couple of Hummers, and a ford dually truck...
it'd look really stupid on top of a car, but it's the only thing out as far as I know.

The whole problem is that you've got to have the dish.. you can't just broadcast that stuff.. and the dish has to track the satellite as you're driving. that's the biggest problem.

then get more toys!
local TV stations.. 5 channels..
DVD player
VCR
PS2 or N64...

there's 3 more channels.

how about hooking up one of those TiVo or TeVo or whatever the hell they are? take it in the house and load up a bunch of movies/shows/whatever, then put it back in the car and have your selection.
