I also have the 1005. Its a great head unit, easy to use and has a bunch of features, menus are easy to navigate. You can listen to the radio or CD with the screen closed by using the remote. The remote isn't very user friendly tho, kinda clunky and can be difficult to figure out. There aren't too many graphics, an option for spectrum analizers, or it shows a radio or cd when listening to either one. If you want a lot of graphics check out the Pioneer unit or the Kenwood. I also have the AI-Net EQ, 320. Did all types of great things, time alignment, LPS etc. I'm doing 8 channel surround now so its for sale, $200 complete like new. If you get one, give me a shout, I also know how to by-pass the safety to watch video while your driving, but then its not really hard to figure out.

if by graphics you mean visualizations/funky stuff, then no. pretty utilitarian with the possible exception of being able to change your background colors, etc.

you can listen to something with the screen closed, yes. you basically get whatever you want playing, then press the "open/close" button and it retracts, but you can still control volume and a few other things from the top of the unit (or the remote)
