Hidden Radar Detector
Ok, I am in the market for a GOOD radar detector. However, I do not want one that mounts on the windshield or is visible to the naked eye. What is a good radar detector that I can conceal in my dash like another Maxima owner has, but I do not want to copy his work since his is original. Thanks all.

not shure if its possible in a maxima but some of the BMW guys have their radars mounted inside their 3rd brake light housing and have a display mounted in their rearview mirrors. Maybe go to to the DTMpower.com site and ask them what type of radar equipment they use for that.

I don't have many complaints about performance, either. Just this morning it picked up a Ka hit from 1/3 of a mile away over a hill. Had I actually been speeding, (which I never do on back roads anyway), I would have had plenty of time unless my speed had been completely insane. The 975R occasionally gets surprised around corners, though. But we're talking about radar hidden behind a house with no other cars around to reflect the signal back to the sensor. I don't think anything can do much in a situation like that.

And the display is so small you can mount it anywhere. I'm even considering finding a way to permanently mount it under the dash out of sight. The audio warnings are distinct enough that you don't really need to be able to see the LEDs to use it. (Ka band sounds exactly like a cricket to me.) At the moment, I keep the display velcro'd to the top of the steering column while driving and then stick it to another velcro piece under the dash near the door when the car is parked. Not that anybody would be able to break in and steal the whole thing anyway, considering that there are three sensors permanently mounted to three different parts of my car.

Just pick the best deal and enjoy. $370 was the lowest I could find, which isn't bad for something that has a MSRP of $600. I think that was at "BestToys.net" or something like that.

Be sure to go for the concealed display. When the concealed display is in use, the main unit does not light up so it is practically invisible from outside the car. I have the main unit tucked just below the tint bar and just to the right of the rear view mirror to allow the rear facing sensor to peek out. My concealed display is mounted with velcro on the steering column right behind the wheel which makes it easy to glance down at. The kit comes with all the wiring you need for a clean install.
Email me and I can send you some pics if you like.

Re: Hidden Radar Detector
How does the V1 'see' Laser from the front if it's behind the winshield tinting?
I'd love a photo, as I was thinkin about buying one this year.

As an added bonus, you can flip the console closed when the car is parked and you won't even have the display showing for curious eyes...
Besides the BEL and the Passport, I believe K-40 also makes a remote-mount detector that interfaces with their laser diffuser. The unit itself can be detached from the license plate frame and also mounted behind the grill. The display lights from the detector also function as a signal that the diffuser has encountered police laser signals.
Does this thing actually work? I have *no* idea...
Hope this helps,

nor will there ever be, since all VASCAR is estimation based on distance traveled and time. it's a fancy calculator and timer basically. very rarely used.
