Aiwa CDC-MP32 - No Sound?

Ok i finally got my Aiwa CDC-mp32 player friday, i wired it up exactly as i had my old Sony HU... but no sound comes from the speakers. The VU on the face shows its playing the CD's and MP3's fine, but no sound? I have the factory bose 6 speaker setup.

The Sony cdplayer played fine, but got too loud with very few volume increments. I assume this is because the speakers were being over amplified... 12-15watts RMS + whatever the bose amps put out. But at least it -played.

Now with the aiwa unit ... complete silence. I can only guess its a result of the 1 ohm(bose amp) to 4 ohm(Aiwa CDC) problem. But if so
How was the Sony able to play? its also 4 ohm.

At any rate i need advice on new speakers i guess.
I want components up front(6 3/4) and 3 or 2 ways in the back(6 3/4 or 6x9)

I have about $300-500 but would like to keep the price low...

You wired the Aiwa to the factory BOSE system? Did you have the BOSE wiring harness or did you just wire it straight?

Also why did you get rid of the SONY?

You said you see it's playing the CD's and MP3s but you have no sound, what about the radio, do you have any radio?

My guess is that since the BOSE system runs on a 1 ohm load and most HUs run 4ohm loads, either the BOSE amps are all blown or the BOSE system is just unable to process the audio -- you need to get your hands on the BOSE wiring harness, it can be had on ebay for like $30 last time I checked (which was like a year ago).

I used the same wireing harness (just a plug adapter to keep from cutting wires, not a level out converter or anything) that i used on the sony. The reasons for getting rid of the ancient sony are the lack of features(only has bass trebel balance fader)
as well as the fact that it was damaged by a failed theft attempt and has skipped badly on any track past ~10 - 15 depending on song length and also it doesnt play Mp3 disks(10+ hours!)

The radio works naturally! But i think its the bose amps not being able to interperate the signal. I think i will get the PD4 interconnect from www.linkmeup.com

But will it sound as good/better than replacing all speakers with aftermarket and let them be driven by HU?

I mean it will sound as good as it would if you were able to hook it directly up to your factory speakers, but ideally you would run the HU to an amp or 2 and let the amp power the speakers.

As for replacing all the BOSE speakers with new ones and directly connecting those -- well I guess it depends on your future plan for your system. It may sound slightly better if you replace all of the speakers, but not worth the $200 if you dont plan to do anything more to your system. And if you do spend $200-$300 on decent speakers, you are not going to be able to realize their full potential until you get amps and then you end up spending a load of money-- trust me I know. Car audio is addicting.

How much is the interconnect?

Like $180 with the "interconnect harness" so thats why im lookin at speakers. Im no newbie to car audio, but by no means a competitor.

I do however like quality sound. In my 93 Van(previous Vechicle) i had a good setup with sony all the way around and a TV/VCR/Playstaion in the roof. Big bad *** V8! too bad the thing weighed like 4 tons. But hey who cares if you have an electric bed in your back seat? Right?

Anyway I will eventually get a nice pair of amps. 1 for speakers and tweets and 1 for subs. I now have a descent 4/3/2 Xplod amp 400w which is probably not the best, but the aiwa puts out 22watts rms which should be plenty compared to the 13 i was used to( and it was loud ie shattered a window in the back)

So which way should i go audiophiles? bose interconnector or new speakers.

My only fear with the interconnector is that it will still keep the speakers playing much louder than the subs( which is another reason i wanted a new HU&speakers)

New speakers period.

Youll be happier in the long run and there is no need to waste money on the interconnects.

Any everyone knows, nothing is more fun then ripping out the BOSE system

no i dont want another harness, harness's dont make speakers work. they connect wires, but if signals are incompatible they do nothing.

I am getting new speakers. 180 is a bit high when speakers are 250 - 300 just 100 more and i can have even better sound!
