Yes it will fit. You will just need to make a new mounting trim ring. Should be easy to do with a little MDF.

Why would you want to down size?

whats the point of useing them small speakers when u can use bigger ones?? bigger ones are also slightly cheaper since they are easier to find........but if u really wanted the 5's to fit......grab some dynamat and make the opening smaller

When I have done listening tests, 5 1/4's always seem to reproduce vocals more accurately/crisply. They also have a higher breakup frequency. Most tweets won't go much below 4kHz, with any authority. So a 5 1/4 will blend better with the average automobile tweet.

ehh - who cares bout vocals.......its all about the BASS!!!! haha - j/k.....well yeah.....it could be true.....but i mean......how much crisp could it possibly be?? I mean.....if it matters that much for you, then i guess you should go for it....the modification required is very minimal

For bass I use twelve's. For midbass I currently use 6 1/2's, hope to enlarge in the future. For 98.5% of music, I use 5 1/4's.
