what are HPF and LPF
well you want them set to HighPass around 100-125hz, that will cut down on certain bass frequencies and keep your speakers from distorting. Im running my 6.5 and 6x9 at 100hz high passed off my Kicker amp and my Sub at 80hz to fill in the missed frequencies.

As an example I run my mids down to 50hz. This would roast most peoples mids so i don't suggest it for most. Thats why generallites can be bad. Also different slopes, speakers, location etc all vary things.

you obviously have no clue what your doing! thats besides the point. I was juist offering my advice to him and to where i think he should have his HI-pass filter set at. I mean ive been in this field for 5yrs now and install litterally everyday and have seen/heard it all. Odds are he doenst have kick panels up front or an amp for his highs, so by using the filter it can only improve his SQ not hurt it!!

I'm mean my god!
Give me a break. If youve been doing it for five years you know one setup is not the best for every car and thats the point i was trying to make.
Hey skyjay... I see you have a Sony ABP deck... I had one ripped outta my car a couple weeks ago. It was the M600 w/out detachable face (the black panel was supposed to deter theft b/c it looked like it wasn't there when powered off... no such luck!)
Anyways, I had Rockford 6.5 separates up front running off 50RMS/100Max from my Pioneer amp, and I really think the best sound was when the HPF was off. So I'm with the guy that likes the low HPF setting for front bass, but I don't compete, I just thought it sounded better. I used the LPF for the 10" sub and set it at 75Hz, sounded sloppy when it tried to play anything higher than that.
Obviously, just my opinions, your mileage may vary.

High-passing the front stage at 100Hz is dumb. You need to have midbass up front for good sound. Plus, you have a 20Hz gap in the midbass range. I have my front mids high-passed at 65Hz (I'd go lower but they can't handle it at high volumes) and my sub low-passed at 65Hz. If you low-pass the sub any higher, you hear all of the bass from the back of the car. That's not good.
i have my fronts at 60Hz at a 12db slope and my sub at 90Hz (sometimes 120) at an 18db slope--i've turned my sub off and high frequencies down so i could hear only the bass, mid-bass from my 6.5"s and i put the volume on louder than i ever would with the sub on and heard absolutly no distortion from my 6.5"s, and i did this with several CDs--this setup sounds great for me but max'n out is right, put my system in a different car or change just one component to it and you have a completly different story
do u guys have a 4 channel amp??? otherwise....how do u guys set the front's HPF is lower, keep the back higher?? cuz my headunit, the sony...if i set the HPF low, all 4 speakers became low....and what do u mean by bridged the amp???
but....my HPF and LPF only has two frequencies to set.....78hz and 125 hz.....well...as u all said....if i set them to 78 hz...i can feel some bass at the speakers.....if i set them to 125hz...i only can feel the sub's bass...but u can play more loud music....

Ive competed for five years and most people will run there mids down pretty low, to help up front bass, it's not to say there is one setup that is better than the other which is my point. I have no clue what i'm doing? I think not bud.
