Awful reception with Pioneer "Supertuner"?

I just installed a new Pioneer Premier P640 in my 2K2 Max, and the reception of the so-called "Supertuner III" really sucks! I've got about half the range I had with stock, not to mention other aftermarket tuners I've had before. I had to use an adpater to plug into the diversity antenna system in the car, just like on the 97 Max I used to have. Is there something about the 2K2 antenna that makes it work badly with aftermarket H/Us? Where _is_ the antenna anyway? In the rear window?

Check your antenna. If still no reception exchange it for another brand or another Pioneer deck.

- The 2002 has the antenna embedded in the rear window I think. That could be why the reception stinks. Maybe an aftermarket deck doesn't like the in-glass antenna, I don't know

I know 3 friends with Pioneer decks...

and they're all terrible. One's buttons wore off. One of them skips a lot on perfect CD's. And one just sounds absolutley terrible. I've heard a couple of them complain about reception also. I know Pioneer LOOKS good and SEEMS tempting but they're terrible decks. I love my clarion. Not the flashiest, but for the money I spent my music sounds great.

have to disagree

i have a Pioneer HU in maxiwhip and i can't imagine having anything else. Nothin but true clarity and wonderful sounds comin from tha deck and eq that Pioneer distributes.....not bashing the previous thread, but i don't know if you gettin ya HU's off tha streets or what, but you're one of the first peeps i've heard who has had problems or has witnessed problems with their HU's. IMPO Pioneer is by far one of the best HU's on tha market to have...might just not be compatible with tha new atennas in tha Max's y'all talkin bout!!

Pioneer's are fine for commercial stuff. Sparco & Kraco was considered good in the 80's.

Try plugging the two prong adapter in 'backwards' from what it is now. On the adapter, only ONE of the antennas is connected to the radio, and you don't know which one. I bet you're connected to the antenna in the rear window instead of the main mast antenna.

there is nothing wrong with your connections or with the car antenna. ALL PIONEER radios are know for poor reception regadless what it says it has. Ive been an installer for 6yrs now and know for a fact its the same with every Pioneer HU. Im not knocking Pioneer at all cause i believe they make one of the best HU out there.
I have the Premier 930 and reception is bad at times, but i harldy use it anyways.
IMHO Kenwood and Alpine have the best reception.
