Speaker Wire Size....
Speaker Wire Size....
Hey guys,
I am upgrading all my speakers, and putting an amp to them. I am planning to run some new wire to them instead of the factory wire... Do you think I can run some 18g or 16g wire?? The Boston Acoustics speakers I bought have 18g wire with them. Do you think that would do, or should I go with bigger stuff like 16g?? What do you guys think??
,,,AND,,,
I am running 2 amps. I have an 8g wiring kit for each one. Do you think it will be OK to run 1- 8g power wire for each as opposed to running 1- 4g wire to a distibution block and then the 8g to the amps?? I don't think it will matter either way, but what do you guys think?????Thanks guys,,,,DMAN

I would just run 16 ga if you can, its not much of a difference but its worth it in the long run. You will have a much cleaner and trick install if you run 1 4ga cable from the battery to a distriboution block. I looks better..and less wire to stuff under the carpet.

Depends on the wattage that you are pushing to your speakers. I ran 12awg to mine.

Now that being said I do have some overkill in my system with 12G wires running to my midbass drivers in the doors.

Not really. Depends more on the length of run. For most applications 16G is fine anything larger is overkill.
