My new toy has arrived....hehe

Well..for those of you who know what you're looking at, keep drooling...

This will go in my LS running free-air in the rear deck. Stay tuned as this will not be installed for at least a couple of months.

So I take it the controller is also the amp? I didn't realize that it came with that when you said the price you were offered. Looks sweet. Hope the free-air set up works out. I thought they were designed for about 2 cubic ft sealed. Of course it looks like the motor assembly is about another 1/2 cubic ft so that would be about 2 1/2 cubic ft.

Yrs, bought it used. This sub is no longer made and retails for $900. The servo controls the signal to the amp so you still need an amplifier.

Velodyne is well known for there home subwoofers, not too sure about how they are for car audio.

Mmmm niiiice. Those things ROCK- if you get them installed properly. I'd be concerned about the free-ait stuff. Stick a box around them, and it'll sound better than most anything else on the market.

I thought about buying some of those puppies, but my wallet decided Focal subs were cheaper. (if that doesn't sound scary enough!)

I've got a review from CSR or CarSound or AS&S or one of those mags somewhere.. shoot me an email if you want me to try and dig it out. ( I never check this forum anymore, cause I don't have time to pretend I know anything about car audio.. but the stuff from back then is what I started with, so I know it pretty well.)

blah. niiiice. me want.

If this is anything like Velodyne's home audio systems, then you'll probably need to have it in a carefully designed enclosure. Read the installation manual carefully and see what it says about this.

For those that don't know, this is a servo-controlled sub. Inside the driver is a position sensor of some sort (this is what that extra 9-pin plug is for). The controller checks the driver's actual position against what it thinks the position should be for the given input signal at a given time, and it adjusts the output signal as appropriate until the driver is doing exactly what the controller thinks it should be doing. This is a pretty cool technology.

But what is the output result of this technology...Like what positive effect does this servo controller produce? How many watts are these subs? DB you're looking for?

No, that isn't the point. Conventional subwoofers produce 10-25% distortion. This sub has less than 1%. It is extremely accurate and musical.

It is a nice sub. But an enclosure very well and carefully constructed would be better than free air in a max with a trunk that leaks like a siv.

Not going in a Max
Let's just say there are no trunk leaks.
