Drive an I30, so 5th gen max w/ the bose HU.

The QX4's are being outfitted w/ drop down video displays allong w/ the indash navi system. The drop down video system links with the stock HU, and a switch on the dash pops up "AUX" on the stock HU display, and the video system outputs sound through there.

Anyone think I can do this?

I'm not quite clear on what you want to do- put in an all aftermarket system with the same ability, or add the video while keeping the Bose? It's no problem doing it all aftermarket; all the mobile media stuff has switching between mutiple sources.

Adding on to your Bose would be a bit trickier, since the in-dash navigation system is probably something totally different. I don't think the Bose units have any kind of AUX input, but you might be able to find an adapter to make the CD-changer hookup into one.

Yeah sheesh. Took me a while to be able to afford a freakin' i30. Although at 17 I had a kickass turbo sports car, but it's coz I borrowed more than I could afford and told them I was 18. To borrow the words of GWBush,

"When I was young and irresponsible, I was young and irresponsible."

Hey kid, however you did it, congratulations. Now keep your head down.

Why not swap everything; hu, screen, and wiring. This would certainly be cheaper then paying +$1000 for alpine $hit.

Of course.

Of course dad is paying.
I DID get 5k taken off sticker though...so that's gotta be worth something.

Anyways, i should make my question more clear.
I want to put an AUX input into my stock HU, anyone know if this is possible? I want to use an aftermarket HU, and i want it to interface w/ the stock one.

OK, makes a little more sense now. If you want to use the Bose headunit to power the speakers, then tapping into the CD changer connector is your best bet if you can find the right adapter.

The other option would be to get an adapter for the aftermarket head unit to connect to all the speaker leads and then have some kind of switch that lets you pick which headunit is driving the speakers. I have vague recollections of this having been done in the past, but it might've been a custom job.

If you've got a decent stereo shop in the area (some non-chain place that has done competition installs), it'd be worth running by them since they probably have a good idea of what's involved in your kind of project.
