there should already be a hole there thats located right above the fuel filter area. its plugged with a rubber cap so just pop that off.

funny i don't think all the maxima that part is open. On my 95 se the hole there is a rubber plug but a wire is using it. So i don't think it would work.

It would help tremendously if you stated what year your Max was. In my 2K1, there is a rubber plug behind the passenger-side strut tower, about 6 inches down. Use your left arm, palm facing the rear of the car, and gently push it in. Then, you should be able to pull it out, with great effort. There should be a white cotton-like material behind it. This is the backing on the rubber inside the car behind the glove box area. This was the ONLY place I could find on my car to get my amp wires through the firewall. Then, you only need to pierce the rubber with something to get your wires through.

Good luck.

Re: Re: firewall

the way i did it was to run the wire into the drivers side fender ( there's already a hole there) and then in the wheel well through the grommet that the hood popper thing uses. sorry for the crappy description.

Firewall

I just put up a page on my website that shows my recent stereo install in my 96SE. I have 3 pictures that show where you need to run your power wire. No need to run through the fender.

I hope this helps!

Those are some helpful pics. Too bad there's not a rubber grommet like yours in the 5th gens! I looked ALL over. The area behind the passenger strut tower is becoming more and more of a pain. I spent all day on it and couldn't get a hole big enough in it to get my two 4-guages through. I said a few cuss words.

Sorry about that, Tony. I'll make it clear on my page that my pics are for 4th gens only.

Dereck,

I didn't make myself clear. I didn't spend time looking for the grommet you had pointed out. You made perfectly clear it was for a 4th gen. I was just ranting about my experience & how unfortunate it was it wasn't as easy on a 5th like a 4th gen.

You guys spend so much time looking for something in an inconvenient location. When you can place it anywhere you desire with a drill. Just drill the hole. It won't hurt a damn thing. Just grease it and use a grommet.
