I tried this in the audio forum and didnt get anything for 3 days, so I tried it here....I'm itching to get my stereo put in !!!
My friend tried out Infinity reference in his max and they were very high on the trebil!!!! I mean they can make your ears bleed high. So he opted for MOMO components instead (which is way tooooooooo pricy). I think you should try the speakers out with the exact head unit you intend to put in the car and judge for yourself before buying the speakers.

My hook up is :
Nakamichi CD 40z
Bostons 67RX co-axial in the front
Infinity Kappas co-axial in the rear
Plus in integrated Bose home theater sub (call me weird but it was for free, I'm not complaining)

I prefer my Kappa's over the bostons, I had a lapse in judgement when I bought my bostons.

All Infinitys are harsh on the highs with the comps. What's your budget? If you've got $150, you can get some pretty nice comps. If you've got $200, now you're talking. Diamonds, mid-range MB Quarts... etc.

What's the RMS on the subs? Sounds like you're under powering them (assuming 250W to each on a 2 ohm load).

I have a VERY limited budget, the Infinitys were 124.00 for the comps, and 65 for the coaxs...That was gonna be about as high as I can go....I thought the Infinitys were good speakers, I'm looking for good highs to compliment my subs....I did a search on the org. and found all good things about the speakers.....

I'm not saying Infinitys are bad speakers... I'm just a picky ****.
If you want Infinity Kappas, you can probably find the same size in the green domes (the old models) for pretty cheap, and probably under $125. I got the 4 inch model over the past summer for around 125-150 on ebay and was very happy with them. The highs were a little rough on the higher volumes, but I also had them on the A pillar firing directly at my ears.

Check out crutchfield too. Their prices are usually high, but a lot of the time they have price breaks on Infinitys, especially when its last year's model.

Forget crutchfield and shop the right way!!!!!!!! EBAY, ebay, ebay. Just watch out for the shipping and handling. I bought mine in a dutch auction from scala, very professional operation in FL. I think they have the new kapps in 6 3/4 for around $85-90 plus shipping and handling. Just do a search by typing in "Infinity Kappa"

I never shop there... I just do research there

But sometimes they actually have some really good deals. But they are few and far between. Right now they've got the Clarion HX-D10 for $300. That's pretty damn nice.

I have MB Quartz in my Jeep, best sound i've ever heard from car audio. A little high in treble, but you can adjust that on the crossover +/-3 db. A little pricey if you pay retail prices, but I buy everything off of www.Carmedia1.com, good guys.

I heard that some competition level people do something unusual........don't know if it's true.........

They gear their system to give the best image-ing by buying 3-way components and only one pair. For the front, they put the mid woofer and tweater and use the lows woofer for the rear. Basically a 3-way set split into 2-way in the front and 1-way in the rear. If you are on a budget, this option may help, but I would still like for you to hear it before you actually go through with it. The reason for putting the lows woofer in the back is for the base, your trunk is going to aid those woofers somewhat by acting like a resonator.

Anyways, do post again to update us on the situation and what you finally decide on. Wondering how the sound is going to be. Like to get info on these things.
