CD player skips in the same location all the time..

I thought it was only on CD-Rs but it seems to do this after a little time to most CDs.. What the hell is wrong with it? What can I do to fix this?

My home system had a problem like that and what I found out when I opened it up was that, there was something interfering with the rotation of the cd when the laser got to that point.

I don't know if this helps??

Maybe its scratched. My friends and I fixed a DVD that kept skipping at the same point by putting toothpast on the backof it, letting the toothpaste dry then wipe it off with a napkin. That supposedly fills in the scratches on the cd. It sounds gross and disgusting but hey, it actually worked.

But this isn't a problem with just one CD. It is my CD player most likely because it does this on different CDs, all generally in the same location, maybe 40 minutes into the Disc.

Could it be that it is dirty or something?

Can I use the regular cd player cleaning discs to clean it out with?
