adding tweeters to coaxials
adding tweeters to coaxials
I have a pioneer6400 HU with Eclipse 6.5 coaxials up front. I want a more "full sound" so will adding tweeters to them be too much trebble even with the crossover?
I already have a pair of cheap no-name tweeters without a crossover and they are killing my ears but if I remove them, the sound lacks a full sound from the system. any help?

Do you mean adding tweeters in the window pillars? This is what I plan on doing, eventually. I will be using a 4 channel amp to drive the front coaxials and a set of tweeters in the pillars. I will mess around with the amp EQ and gain settings so that the tweeters compliment the coaxials. I'm thinking if this is done properly, the tweeters will provide a good ambience accross the front windshield. Done improperly, and it could sound like crap.

I believe Coaxials already have tweeters, they are just together with the speaker... like in the middle... i don't know anything about adding more though,

yes, I wanted to add tweeters to my coaxials to create a more full sound. I was just wondering if this has ever been done before and if so, what do they reccommend? Ive been having tweeters with my coaxials before but the tweeters didnt have a crossover and they were very harsh - waaay too loud for my ears

What do you mean your tweeters didn't have xovers? Using an amp to drive tweeters without some sort of xover is like arc welding your tweeters!!!!

I'm not sure what kind of setup you have, but try using an amp with a built-in electronic xover. You can then use it to drive the tweeters in high-pass mode (letting only high freqs through while blocking low freqs). Most amps also have a sensitivity setting you could use as a volume control to set the tweeter level to your liking.

Well, in essence, this is what Bose has done. The speakers in my doors are actually full-range mid-woofers (if there's such a thing)and the tweeters in the pillars just compliment these.

I simply soldered the leads of the tweets to the speakers which I added a cap to the pos. terminal.
Im going to either buy some sort of control to limit what goes through the tweeters or just buy a set of components and move my Eclipses in the back.

by the set of components. in my opinion what you are doing by adding the tweeters to the coaxials is just a bandaid. just go ahead and get a decent set of components, with crossovers mind you. or you could always build your own.
