Lights dimm with bass notes

Ok, last night i was sitting in the drive thru line at Taco bell and notice everytime my bass hits (when i am playing the music loud) the lights slightly dim. I know that is normal. Now, i have a 2nd amp for my speakers, but the fuse is out right now because i don't have any speaker wires going from it to my speakers. Once i do though, will that make my lights dimm more. What do i need to make the dimming now happen?

thanks

bryan

p.s. How much will it cost?

I dont know how many watts your system is, but a cap would definatly help big time. As a good rule of thumb you should have a 1 farad cap for every 1000 watts. And you can get them starting at about $50 on up...

I have the same problem as you do. What I did as a temporary solution was to lower the gain on my amp. I plan on getting a 1 farad cap soon.

I mean, the dimming isn't real noticeable unless you are just sitting there looking for it. The amp i have isn't that powerful and the sub is only a 10inch. I want to know though, is once i get that other amp going, a kenwood 648s, to power my speakers, will that make the dimming MORE noticeable.

thanks

I would also check on your GROUND connection, It doesnt sound like your system should be hurting you battery that bad, so it actually might be something really simple.. Just check all of your wires to make sure they are well fastened and connected..

I have about 1200 watts running thru my system, and Im not getting any dimming at all but I do have the required power size going to each amp, and a fairly new battery. But, no dimming from mine!

i recommend u get an amp or whoever has a system to get an amp...even a 1/2 farad will do...mainly cause right now...it's hurting ur alternator...also...the alternator only puts out 12v...while the cap will make it run at 14.4V i think...which is what rockfords require...so it'll hit faster and better...also...it won't kill ur alternator...how much is it to replace an alternator?....more expensive than buyin a cap

Will having a large cap(1Farad) be harmful to a low wattage system(400 watt)? I want to upgrade my system later and dont want to have to buy a new cap so will it be safe to get the 1F cap now and upgrade later? or should I wait until I get more power?

a cap is like an extra battery getting a larger one wont hurt your system it will keep it stable with no dimming. bigger is better incase u get a better system

i run 2 12" titanium eclipse with a kicker dx700 1400 watts and a cap = no dimming

A cap is good buy a 2nd battery is even better. My buddy has a ZR600 he used to have a 1 farad cap, but replaced it with a 2nd battery and now his lights barely dim at all... the alternator should put out 14.4 volts. a 1farad cap steps up the power something like 30amps!

the output of the alternator depends on cars...most imports put out 12V...while trucks and other heavy duty automobiles put out a lot more

so your saying that a cap will not only stabilize the power but also add extra power too?

Umm, no, he's talking out of his ***... if the cap boosted the amperage to the amplifiers, it would BLOW FUSES like a ****. Jeez people, the cap stabilizes the power supply to the amp(s) and supplies it quicker than the battery by itself.

I have a 1F cap powering my subwoofer's amp only (600 watts max there), and a separate 400 watt max amp that powers my interior speakers. I still notice a slight dimming when the volume is cranked up to above 30 (out of 35).
