Lockout of Bose Stereo

I'm in the market for a early 4th gen, and I went to look at a 96 GLE today and everything looked good......Except for the Bose stereo, which didn't work (wouldn't turn on). The guy told me they were getting it taken to a local stereo shop to get fixed.

It looked to me that they have a new battery in the car, and I was wondering if the car had a security feature that if the battery was disconnected the stereo wouldn't work. I know in my car (a 98 Z28) if the battery is disconnected, a code must be inputed in the stereo for it to work again, otherwise it won't turn on. If that is the case, can a run of the mill car audio shop be able to fix it? If not that route, could it be fixed w/ taking the VIN # to Nissan?

Just thought I'd ask to see if it's a big problem, b/c if it is I'll look elsewhere.

NOpe, no reset code on the BOSE. If you can avoid the BOSE you might want to. It's not impressive and limits what you can do w/ the rest of the system. Good luck in your quest. Get a max, you'll love it. Mine's a 95 w/ 130 and still running strong.

So does it have the lockout feature? If so, is there no way for it to get it to work again?

I wouldn't mind replacing the stereo, only that I don't have the money to do it anytime soon.

No, there is no lockout feature.

Sorry I was a little confused.

Thats cool, so it must be something else they'll be fixing. I could care less b/c they're going to fix it before they sell it, but I wanted to know anyways. Thanks

I'd say it's fairly impressive for an only near-luxury car's factory stereo system (and it beats the hell out of the factory stereo's in both my Integra and 626) - but I agree, avoid it like the plague.

I'm going through hell right now just finding a CD Changer that'll work with it and in three months I'll probably end up spending $1000+ to replace the whole system.

Sigh...

I agree. Take the car without the stereo. You don't want it. Get yourself an Alpine deck, some Rockford amps and some JL Audio subs. Now that is a system!

yea... sounds good

Well Possibleowner... I think that they either have a blown fuse or there is also a relay that is used to turn on the amps, which also may be the problem...

Paradoxish... there are lots and lots of cd changers that work with the bose cd playwer, I sold one 6 months ago on ebay, it was a nissan cd changer and it sold for 160, check out ebay most cd players will work with it that say they will.... Bose is good about that, well I should say clarion, which is the maker of the headunit
