As an owner of an OG alt I can honestly and confidently say that you do not need a higher amp alternator. What you need is to take some time and analize your wiring and capacitor setup. 2 farads should be good for about 2000 watts. But a low quality amp doesn't have much built in capacitance and will cause a larger strain. For example, my wife's car with 500-600 watts RMS of MTX power suffers no light dimming without capacitance. The same car with an old PPI amp, about 200 watts RMS has the lights dimming.

Make sure your power wiring is sufficient for the current the amps could draw. Both positive and negative. Make sure connections are good. Make sure there are no shorts or other wiring issues. And ensure the capacitors are wired properly and working properly. A low quality cap could be your problem, but I have never experienced this problem personally.

I like the kicks. But that's me. Some people don't mind being unable to hear the left channel. You can also do as at least one other has done and mount the tweet in the A-pillar and just put the mid in the kick. In some respects this could have better sound, such as the tweet never being behind a foot or leg. In the normal respect the stageing could be adversely affected.
