Any recommendations for a 8" free air sub?

I want to get rid of my box (takes too much trunk space) and mount a sub in the factory Bose sub area. Has anyone tried this?

You need to seal the trunk a little better than factory to make it work a little better.

I've had my installer try this and it sounded like crap. They wired my old Alpine amp to a 8" (I think) sub and it sounded very boomy.

You will need to seal off the package shelf from the trunk to separate the front of your sub from the rear. In my 2K1 I saw that I had enough room to make an MDF baffle and attatch a 10" sub there. All I needed to do make the baffle larger than the stock 8" hole and then drill holes in the shelf to mount it & then seal it to the shelf.

I really think you'll have MUCH better sound with a sealed box. I just put a small sealed box with a JL 10W6 in the left rear corner of the trunk and it doesn't take up much room. Your choice.

See my thread, I should have pics posted soon of my install with the box I was talking about.

my next idea is very similar to yours, with your 10" sub in the baffle, but instead of just making the baffle i plan to make a box and mount it to the rear deck, with the topside of the sub in the cabin. i want to feel the bass damnit, and i don't want it loud.

Infinate baffle vs a sealed box in the rear deck is not the same thing . Only thing the same is that you have to rebuild the deck .

i know they aren't the same, but the idea of mounting a 10" sub close to the rear deck using the existing bose hole, that was similar to my idea. but mine will have a sealed box along with it.

I thought of doing that, too. But the box I bought fit so perfectly that I just decided to go that route. If you decide to go that route, I'm sure it will sound good.

i hope it does, cause the 15" i have now sounds pretty damn good with it being in the trunk even.
