Best Enclosure Volume

What is the best enclosure size for a Brahma 12 and a Kicker L7?

My cousin is wanting to put eaither one of these behind the seat of a 2002 Silverado and he wants tocheck for the optimum enclosure size before he begins.

I appreciate any help.

i second the 1 cubic foot for the brahma, and for the L7, i'd say 2.0 cubic feet. these are my recommendations for sealed boxes.

For the Brahma between 0.7 and 1.5 cubic feet. As recommended by adire on their web site. Kicker should have the encosure recommendations on their site as well. Always go to the manufacturer's site before posting questions of this sort on a forum.

I did go to the site. I have seen what they each put as acceptable enclosure volumes. Since there is such a wide variation on the box size, I was more or less wanting to know what sizes work the best out of those ranges.

Yes, I was also told 1 cubic foot when I ordered my Brahma 12 back in December or January. But not all listeners are the same, nor all cars. So to say that one size will be the best is a gross error. It is a documented fact that the enclosure volume affects the sound quality and SPL. If the average person likes 1.0 cubic foot, I would most likely like larger as I am more likely to be impressed by low frequency extension than by high SPL.

very true. he did not post whether he wanted spl or sq, so i felt the 1.0 recommendation would probably be the best compromise of both.

bigger is better when you are going for SQ, so i guess if you are really into SQ then go with the 1.5ft^3 box. but keep in mind the brahma is a very very musical sub, so even at 1ft^3 it will sound good. and i don't know how much more quality you'll gain by going bigger.

if Q = 0.707, 0.707 / 0.45 = 1.571, 1.57 ^2 = 2.46, 2.46 - 1 = 1.46

VAS / 1.46 = 37.2 l / 1.46 = 25.5 l or just under 1 cubic foot.

For an extreme SQ enclosure you may want to go with a Q of 0.6 or even 0.5 so the numbers would be: for 0.6 volume = 47.8 liters
for 0.5 volume = 158.6 liters

for the brahma when the q=.707 the volume will be like .93 or something in that area.
