Got some second hand audio stuff ... good for a temp solution?

Hey everyone,

Anyone who's read my last few posts knows that I'm going to be replacing my Bose system completely. New components up front (maybe, or possibly just really good coaxs) and some okay coaxs in the back, a new head unit, and a 12 disc changer. I was planning on powering the whole system through the head unit and thus not getting a seperate subwoofer, but I've come upon some stuff that might make temporary subs a possibility until I can afford better. Here's what I got, let me know if it's even worth installing this stuff or not:

First, a friend wants to sell me two nearly-new Kenwood 12" Subs + their box for a good price (<$80). The subs seem to sound and work good, so I'm not worried about quality or anything. I'm going to buy them, just because it's a good deal, but I figured I couldn't use them since I can't afford an amp with my other purchases.

But then...

I got lucky (maybe). A friend who works at a garage got me a good condition, working Rockford Fosgate amp for free. Obviously I wasn't going to turn it down. It seems to be either a lower-end/older model, though, so I want your opinion on whether it's worth my time to install it along with the rest of the system as a temporary bass solution, or whether it'll just degrade the overall quality of the system.

The amp is a Rockford Fosgate 2600x. Here's the feature info taken directly (word for word) from the box:
  • Built-in 12db per octave active crossover
  • Bridge mono/stereo simultaneously
  • Gold plated connectors
  • 120w x 1 at 4 ohms
  • 60w x 2 at 2 ohms
  • 30w x 2 at 4 ohms

I'm still going to power the cabin speakers exclusively through the HU (for now) so this amp is only going to be used to power those two subs.

Whaddya think? Worth it?

Maybe. But I'm really just looking for some info on the amp. Searches on yahoo and google don't turn up very much of interest. I like Rockford Fosgate quality and this doesn't appear to be TOO old (maybe a few years), but I'd hate to wire it all up only to have quality so bad that I want to tear it back out again.

in my opinion, the older fosgate stuff is their best stuff. i'm not sure of your particular model though.

but as for the amp powering the subs, i'd probably say that with that amp, one sub will sound better than the two together.

That's what I was thinking too... except that the subs are going to be two-to-a-box. Obviously, I could just hook one up.. but I'll feel kind of dumb with two subs in my trunk and only one powered.

Oh, well. That's probably what I'll end up doing... at least until I have the money to buy a new amp.
