I asume so since I can only see half of it...as long as there no holes in the box anywhere I can't see it's sealed.

Well, all it is , is a box with the 10 inch sub in it. No holes for air to come out, what you see on the half you can see, is the same on the other half. So i guess its sealed. Why is sealed better? Allows for more pressure and air to move through the trunk?

thanks
bryan

The reason i was asking, was my gf's father has in his basement a bandpass box with 2 10's in it. And the box is long and has 2 port holes on top. So, i didn't know if going to something like that instead of what i have would hurt or help me

A bandpass box is going to result in a very booooooooomy affect on your music...the bass will lag behind by alot from the rest of the music...sealed enclsoures provide the best all around effect...they give you that tight punchy accurate bass.

it keeps the sub sounding tighter and cleaning. bandpass and ported allow it to hit harder and longer and be louder, but it doesn't sound nearly as clean. bandpass is typically for rap and bass music, while most people who like a mixture of everything get better results from sealed...

Well ya see...the problem that you have is you cant just throw speakers in any box! Big thing that alot of people do. Which is just so damn wrong ! Hehe. A speaker can only sound as good as the enclosure its in. So if the box is made for the speaker then it is fine. BTW sealed boxes are alot more accurate...

And finally .....I Beat you Max'n out!!!!! Woo hoo

Very well said... Your JL might be made for sealed only... A lot of speakers are made specifically for sealed or ported (ported are included into bandpass). Ported enclosures move more air (hence....Bass) so the woofers made for ported enclosures have more excursion, etc...

If you like rap/bass, get a Sub that is to be used in a ported enclosure. If you like Warrant, Whitesnake, & Danger Kitty, stick with the sealed...

Well, i was just saying that i have that 1 sub, and that i came across an already built bandpass set. I wasn't going to put the kicker in that box.

Well, i like a wide variety, so sealed is what I will be sticking with

thanks
bryan

p.s.

what are some ways you guys get your sealed boxes to hold still in the trunk?

If your going for SPL go with the ported box.. If you build A box like mine i Guarantee you will hit at least 142 dbs!!! Yes thats right with one 12...

That is if you are interested in something like that..

yeah, Rap is my kind of music. I have a Sealed Box for 2 '12's and I can just tell that a ported box has more bass. I need to get me a new box with Ports, or to just save money, put the ports in myself lol

get a bracket or a peice of backstrap from lowes or some place like that hell even walmart has brackets, screw one part to the box and one to the floor.

Why LOL? It's actually very easy to build an enclosure... Just get the Cubic Feet recommended and go from there... Convert into dimensions...

The most important things to remember are:

Use at least 3/4" MDF
Port size (You must take the port size into consideration when doing your calculation)
Port Location (Cancellation...)
