bad speaker?

ok, i have 6.5" memphis speakers in the front of my car, and when i was mounting them (about damn time 2) when i pushed on the cone of one it makes this scratchy sound...i pulled the tweeter off and tried to see if a piece of metal or something was lose, but could find nothing...the best i could see was where the cone meets the rest of the speaker it is rubbing against sumthin so yes...now when the speaker plays a little bass it rattles a bit...very strange, but i oiled the speaker a bit where the sound was and it kinda went away...any idea what this might b? did i maybe blow sumthin? any input much appreciated

Could possibly be metal shavings that got attracted by the magnet and got stuck inside. I had that happen before with my old speakers when I was drilling new holes in the speaker tabs for my 6.5s to fit in a 6 3/4 opening. All the shavings got stuck to the magnet

Is it the tinsel leads rubbing the back side of the cone? If so you can glue a small piece of felt to the back of the cone between the cone and lead wires.

nopers...perhaps i shouldve explained better so i will try...the speakers are 2 ways, and the noise is coming from the center post where the tweeter is mounted...i think what nismo said could b right, because there is a magnet down there, but the rubbing is so far down i couldnt see...but the oil helped a ton, and the sound isnt there anymore, i just hope it doesnt come back...

for the most part, if it makes a screeching sound when you push straight down on the cone then it is the bad speaker.
