Is it possible to put a Bose unit from a 4th Gen into a 3rd Gen car? Does it take an adaptor?

It is possible to put just about any deck you want into your car. The stock 4th gen BOSE is not dependent on anything special in that model. So It would be a simple splice job with the proper unit and proper cable bracket.

So are you saying that the 4th gen Bose unit will bolt directly into a 3rd gen without adaptors, cutting, etc? Is the wiring a plug-in, or would you need to cut & splice in different connectors? Thanks

It's been done...

I've put a '95 double-din BOSE headunit in place of my '91 single-din BOSE headunit. I bought 2 adaptors and plugged 1 end into the '95 BOSE and 1 end into the cable. It works fine...'cept for nighttime illumination. I'm happy with it though...at least I finally have a CD player.

Please excuse my audio-ignorance, but what do you mean by "double-din" and "single-din"? I'm not really into the 5,000,000 watt fill-my-trunk rolling earthquake mods - I'd just like to be able to play CD's. Does the gen4 head unit bolt right up to the existing mounts? Thanks!

double din and single din refer to the size; double din is twice as big and if you have a storage tray/cup holder underneath your current radio, you will have to remove that

as far as mounting, I don't know
for the wiring, you wont be able to plug it directly in, you will have a do a little bit of work connecting the right wires, but it shouldn't be too bad
