Going to start working tommorow - any advice?
Alright, I've finally managed to collect everything I'm going to be using. I "need" this system all set up by the time I go away on my trip (mainly because I want a cd changer for such a long ride). My Pioneer 7400 HU is finally on the way, but it won't be here for about a week and a half (too long) so I'm going to use a Sony head unit that I got off a friend temporarily (I'm not too concerned about just replacing the HU).
Anyway, I have a '96 GLE with the Bose system so I know it's gonna be a lot of work to switch everything out. I'm using Boston Rally components up front and Alpine 3-ways in back. I've got two subwoofers, but since I don't have a good amp for powering them right now I'm holding off. Instead I'm using an older Rockford Fosgate amp that I got my hands on to power the front speakers.
If possible, I want to mount the Boston tweeters in the stock locations. Should I have any problems with this? If so, does anyone have a better suggestion for where/how to mount them? Also, the Rally's are 6 1/2" so I'm guessing I'll have to make some kind of wood brace to secure them up front, or will they fit into the stock locations (which I was under the impression were 6.75")?
Phew. I'd appreciate any last minute advice on replacing the whole Bose system and installing a new amp and links to any how-tos or anything would be appreciated. I've done work on car audio stuff before, but this is the biggest project I've ever had to do all at once.. so it's a little daunting.
I have one person helping me and I'm setting aside the entire day tommorow (and by that I mean from morning to night) and most of the morning and afternoon on Thursday. Think this should be enough time?
(if anyone says no I'll probably lose my mind
)
