4th GEN BOSE SYSTEM
Does anyone know how good the bose interior speaker systems are? Like its wattage, basic specification, etc. I want to get a new head unit for my 95 max, but if the factory bose speakers(tweeter, front/back speakers, etc) are not that bad, then I'll just hook up the new HU to thems.. I would like to know how "bad" they are compared to some of the "decent" aftermarket speakers. thanks
Getting a head unit and running the Bose speakers isn't worth it. The speakers are all 6 1/2's that are all self amped. If you're going to change something, you might as well do the whole thing. Most aftermarket decks run at 4 ohm and the impedance on the Bose speakers is much lower than that, so it won't work. Bose aren't that bad, but it won't be easy or worth it to hook them up with other aftermarket stereo components
If you want better sound, I'd suggest replacing the speakers, not the HU. I actually liked the midrange drivers on the 95 Bose system, pretty good midbass response and decent clarity in the midrange. I didn't like the sound of the tweeters, however. They sounded harsh with many types of music. And, the mids being 5.25's, they don't go very low. They should have used bigger drivers in the rear, like the 3rd gen maximas. I would replace the amp/speakers and keep the HU, using a converter so you can hook up external amps and speakers. Or, you can also go with a new HU and new speakers.
