Suggestions for uprgading my system

I am thinking of replacing both my amps. I need some suggestions.

I currently have:
Alpine v12 40x4 amp powering my infinity components and coaxials and a rockford power 800a2 running a pair of infinity perfect 10s. The 10s are wired mono and this is causeing my amp to overheat.

Im thinking of replacing my alpine (just because it underpowers my speakers and if im going to redo my trunk i might as well take care of that now) with a xtant 4004 that i can nab for 300$

What should i do about my sub amp? Is there a better (used or new) amp i can use for my surrounds?

I dont want to spend more than 400 for my sub amp.. one option i was throwing around was picking up another 800a2 from ebay for 200$ and using an amp for each sub.... what do you think about that?

thanks

If that amp is 100x4 at 4 ohms thats not a bad deal at all. I used to have an Orion 800.4 amp that did 100x4 and it sounded awesome. Paid around $300 also. Haven't used an xtant though. For the sub amp you might want to consider a JBL 1200.1 ($250-300). This is what I have in my trunk and you definately will not have a problem with overheating. I can bump for a couple hours and the amp will just get a little warm. Do you not like you alpine or do you just want more power? I ask beccause I have an Alpine 307 (same model?) and I love it. I'm running it 2 channel to my components though, have my coaxs running off the HU. One thing about the JBL, though. It does take a lot of power so you would want to buy a cap if you don't have one already. You'll probably need one if you decide to upgrade both of your amps anyways.

I would also recommend a class D amp for your subs. There should be plenty to choose from at less than $400. Make sure to match up the impedance of your sub(s) with the amp. The JBL is a great deal considering its raw power output. Also, the Lightning Audio Strike and Storm series are a very good value. I run a Crossfire 1000d on my car, and it works great. I don't believe you would need a cap for your car for a typical everyday driver. You might experience slight dimming on very heavy bass music, but if you play music, a cap isn't a must.

The JBL is clean. Many people have bought these amps, with very few problems. There are many reasons various amps of the same power capabilities sell at different prices, brand image being one. They should work fine on the pair of Perfects, if not a bit overpowering.

The JBL definately gives you clean power. I'm not sure why it is cehaper than anything else with similar power, but it's defiantely clean & reliable. With the brands you mentioned, you are paying a little extra for the name. Also, this amp is meant strictly for subs and is about raw power. I can see why you're hesitant, but this amp has become VERY popular, in part because of its reliablity. I can run it for hours and it won't even get hot. I've been running one for almost a year now with no problems.

Watts per Channel 2 Ohm 1 x 1000
Bridged Mono at 4 Ohm n/a

for my subs.... do you think ill blow em??? the guy at the audio place says i wont.. but i dont know
heres my subs info
Power Handling, Peak: 1400W
Power Handling, RMS: 350W
Sensitivity: 94dB (In Car)
Frequency Response (± 1.5dB): 18Hz - 150 Hz
Frequency Response (±3dB): 18Hz - 150Hz

i got the xtant 4004 for my surrounds
Specifications
Number of Channels 4

wow that amp looks sweetwhat'd you pay?. I doubt you'll have any problem blowing your subs. Haven't had any personal experience with the Perfects, but I've heard they can take a lot more than they're rated (like most subs), esp. with that 1400W peak. As for the other amp, unless your speakers are 2 ohm, you'll only be giving them 50W each. Not too big an upgrade for 40W. Also, alpine amps are underrated. Your amps probably are too, but like I said I've never used them before. Nonetheless, your system will definately sound clean and hit hard with that setup.
