2k2 Stock non-Bose HU question

ok, can you run an amp and subs with just the stock non-bose headunit in a 2k2? if so, has anyone done this? i want to start off my whole audio setup with the bass. how good are the stock non-bose speakers? i was thinking of getting an amp to run to the stock speakers, then another to the sub. use the stock speakers for highs and mids, then just get a sub. i dont want to go all out on my system, just want it to sound good and be heard. any suggestions on subs and amps would be appreciated.

im in the same boat as you. i have a 2k2 without bose. i went to my local car audio shop, and asked if i can run subs and an amp to the stock hu, because its cheaper, and putting in an after market hu looks dumb. he said yes. then i asked him if i could amplify my stock speakers, he said its a good idea since even the best hu;s give out 10 wattss. i asked if it will break the speakers, he said it shuldnt, it shuld make them sound better. he also said i can run both amps off the stock hu. so hopefuly by next week im gonna have my system in. im gonna put in a jbl 600.1 2 jl wo 10's in a jl box, and a jbl 80.4 for the mids and highs along with 4 gauge wire. it should run me about 90 bucks with install.E]

I DISAGREE WITH YOU..sorry
i think that you are better off changing the stock speakers because the speakers no matter the amp are going to give you stock sound, i think you should at least change the speakers and keep the HU thats what am doing next week. the install is about $90

playero, nice max, i have the identical 1. anyway, obviously ur gonna have to change the stock speakers, but by putting in new speakers and running it off the hu, you are giving those nice speakers at max 10 watts, which means when u put it up, it will distort and possibly blow the new speakers. thats y you buy an amp first, hook it up to the stock, until you can buy the new speakers. the guy at my local audio shop said by putting an amp in will make the stocks sound good enough until you want to buy new speakers. he said all hu's regardless of price, make about 10 watts perchannel, thus by putting in a real amp and keeping the stock hu, about 45 watts rms is going 2 each speaker. i know thats 2 much for stock, but turn the gains down and take the bass out of the speakers by using the crossover and it will sound better until yu can afford new speakers.

Well, I drive 2k1 with non-Bose. I didn't change the factoyr head unit, but last week I got pretty much everything newly installed by a speicalist, except a DVD player and TV screens. This is because I'm not gonna watch any movies or TV while I'm driving. I spent a little more than $3000 including labor even though I got pretty good deals on speakers and others. I noticed that the factory deck produced very annoying noises at low volume. When I turn it up, I don't hear the noise, so it's not that big of deal. If it wouldn't bother you, keep the factory deck. If you are considering having an after market HU with the closest factory HU look, then go with Clarion ADZ625. thezeb.com offers the best deal on the deck. I can't ask you to put any specific speakers, amps, subs, but please change the factory speakers. They really really suck. Also, check out www.carreview.com. You can find some good information about car stereos from that web site. Then, I wish you luck.

You don't have to. Get the PAC SWI-X adapter. You can even program it so that your steering wheel controls will do something else (like pressing two buttons together to turn off the radio for example)

Well, it *is* made by Clarion - same goes with the so-called Bose on the 2k2

But i'll have to disgress though, personally i like how the OEM radio on some Honda's/Acura's sound. Even in base-form, Alpine HU's sound a lot cleaner to me.
