The box dimesions are dependant on the subs you use and the sound quality you desire. Along with the sound quality idea it is generally not advised to mix different subs, or any speakers that will be playing the same frequencies. As different sized subs will have slightly different tonality. And setting up the boxes so that they share a similar Q will be difficult.

I know that different subs need different deminsions but I was talking about the width and hieght and depth of the trunk. I was looking to get the box mounted all the way across. and also thanks for the info on mixing sizes maybe i will just get two more 12s

Have you ever heard even a single good 12 in a maxima? Properly amplified, wired, and with a copious amount of sound dampening and careful application a single high quality 12 can rock the maxima. Two, well twice as well. Four, unless they are average or cheaper subs, will afford nothing but deafness and a total lack of sound quality no matter how you do it. Unless you are really, really careful. I mean a few or more really good subs could sound good if done right. But just the box materials would probably be about $1000. But that's the way that I build boxes. And to install a set of front stage components, or horns that can keep up with four 12's would be another hefty chunk of change.

umm....41" wide between the wheel wells , about 16" high before you hit the trunk bars, and about 19" deep ..7cu ft roughly to work with ...if you fiberglass the spare tire well you can almost get another 2cu ft out of it...if you were planning on actually doing 4-12"s i would plan on fiberglassing the tire well...

(i'm trying to do 3-15"s) :X

Yeah I would reccomend going with like 2 10" subs. Those would sound great in a Maxima. Like someone else said, with all that bass, there won't be sound quality any way you look at it. If all you're going for is SPL though, then by all means do 4 12s. I would just go with something with less bass and make it a more well rounded system, no fitment problems with that.

Not to mention the fact that most non-audiophile people that get 4 12"s end up getting something like 4 fosgate punch 12s, and think that more of them will make up for the lack in quality of a $50 sub in general.

If you're going to use 'decent' subs, I'd concentrate on the enclosure and make it well-tuned and constructed to maximize what you can get out of the subs, and then perhaps put fitment pieces or something on the outsides of the enclosure to snug it into factory dimensions. Dunno if that's how nice factory-friendly installs are usually done though...I was never too concerned about how stuff looked in the back, just how it sounds

I'm a big fan of the single quality sub setup With the good quality subs I've heard, two would be overkill for me.
