I need to replace the original radio/cassette player in my wife's '85 Maxima sedan. She would like a CD/Cassette/Radio combination. I would like advice about things like what size I need (double DIN?) whether I can replace just the top unit or if I need to replace the whole stack (equalizer on bottom?), and whether I need some sort of mounting kit. I suppose it's wise to replace the whole thing, but I'm on a budget, so that may affect my decision. Any advice?

Most new decks have built in EQ's so you will probably replace the whole thing. A double din is what you want to fill up the gap, and a mounting kit is only ~$20. You can find what you want for $100-$1000, but try getting a used one off EBAY. You may also want to think about a cheap old tape deck attached to a cd changer, that is if you want to keep the EQ.
