stereo upgrade

Just inherited my mother's Maxima GLE, only 34000 KMs and was just parked in heated garage for many years, but runs like a dream. Equipped with a BOSE 6CD's and cassette player which I would like to upgrade to a stereo with aux inputs and able to play MP3 CDs and keep the steering wheel controls feature, any suggestions? Still sounds awesome, but would really like to play music from my iphone.

You should check out the BOSE speaker/audio replacement in the Audio section of the forum. I'm pretty sure just browsing through all 20 something pages will answer all of your questions/needs

a good starter radio (the one i have and love) is the Pioneer AVH-P1400DVD, its a 2 din with everything you'll need especially if you have an iphone. Get that and the pioneer iphone connector and you're set with GPS using your phone and built in Pandora control.

I assume you're planning to stick with the factory Bose speakers? If so, you'll need to add a PAC adapter to go along with that head unit purchase (this would convert RCA's to your factory speaker harness that runs to the Bose AMP. You can also get a PAC steering wheel control unit...however I've had mixed results with it. I often run into issue with the buttons not working quite right.

youre best off spending about $200 on the AVH i mentioned on Ebay, with the phone adapter, and getting 2 pairs of Polk Audio DB651 speakers for $50 per pair on amazon. These sound really decent for the price even without an amp.

In order for him to change the speakers he going to have to wire them to the headunit and remove everything bose. Honestly he is better off with a new headunit + loc...or a cassette adapter

Im sorry but why do you seem to think removing the BOSE is difficult? Also if he doesnt want to do it himself Best Buy will remove it for a cheap price (notice i said remove..it's your choice to have them install it, mixed reviews on that.)

I never said removing the BOSE system is difficult, OP stated that he just wanted to play his iphone music and keep the steering wheel controls. Why go through all the hassle of buying and replacing an entire sound system when all he needs is a cassette adapter.

in some cases george, yep. Especially if your on-board DAC on your phone already sucks.

This model seems a good choice. Does 'everything you'll need' mean that I will not need a professional to swap the units and all the connectors will match? Is there a market for the OEM equipment? I think I'll keep the BOSE speakers in place for now.

If you keep the speakers youll need a LOC, like one by scosche, when I say "everything you need" I mean its features. You also the harness and double din adapter listed on metraonline.com under your vehicle. These parts are cheap on amazon however and you would need them either way if youre going to replace the Bose radio. Installation is pretty straight forward if you use one of the many popular threads on here.

Here's a list of what you need IF you want to take this on, it seems monumental at a glance but its really not bad.

Steering wheel control adapter: http://metraonline.com/part/ASWC-1

Double din adapter: http://metraonline.com/part/95-7416G

Harness: http://metraonline.com/part/70-7551

Scosche LOC: http://www.amazon.com/Scosche-SLC4-S.../dp/B000BFL52Q

just search for what antenna adapter youll need on here.

I live in a small town in the kootenays so I think I will wait until my next trip to Calgary and wheel into bestbuy or someplace like that and have them fix me up. I could tackle this job myself, but will have to find everything online. I found that the cassette adapter does the job for now, but I think this car does deserve a top of the line audio system.
