STX class

I hear that with a hi-flo cat converter our cars run in STX class, so I guess that's what I'm running in. What other cars run in stx? Is forced induction allowed? Is a 96 5-speed max with y-pipe, b-pipe, muffler, intake, coil-overs, AGXs going to compete against other cars in this class? Any info would be great. Thanks.

Our AutoX group is fairly small, so they let me race in STS with all that stuff.

STS or STX will kill most if not all Maximas. Those classes are getting very fast!!!

I don't see how it's possible for our cars to keep getting destroyed in autoX. More and more modifications are being released for them every month, mods wouldn't be developed for a car with no potential. I hear from a lot of people that maximas can really hold their own with the proper modifications. What are we up against in STS and STX? I'm guessing the likes of hondas and acuras. I'm getting mixed reactions, some say we don't stand a chance, others say we do pretty f***ing well. I don't know what to say. I've driven civics and the like with suspension mods and they really didn't impress me. My maxima handles pretty damn tight, even enough to outhandle some civic, and it's definately faster. I haven't autoXed the max yet, so I admit I have no basis for my statements, but I plan on changing that soon.

The problem is the stiff competition, as in good drivers and the shear number of STS competitors sometimes. If I head to bigger towns (Milwaukee or Chicago) I would get spanked. Here's some of the cars I go against in the STS class:

BMW 325s
RX-7s
Golfs
240's, altimas, sentras.
Civics, Preludes
Integras
WRXs
Etc...

RX-7's and WRX's?!? You've got to be kidding me!!! That doesn't seem fair at all. They have to really think these classes over. How much fun can it be to get your @ss kicked? Oh well, I take back what I said before.

The STS and STX classes where I usually run are populated with Talons/Eclipses (of the 4wd turbo variety), late 80s M3s, and various Subarus (either WRX or Impreza 2.5RS, which is still pretty good). So yeah, it can be a tough class. They all generally whomp me by a good 2 seconds at least (on a 45 second course).

Exactly!

I will say my Maxima does a heck of alot better on a roadcourse than a small @ss autox track.

Nissan's did well in Chicago today, 1st in STS, 2nd in STX
Chicago event #6 - VTEC Challenge

Today's STX class included 4 WRX's, 3 SentraV's, and a '90 Talon

Milwaukee's STX today had 6 WRXs, 2 TegR's, a 200SX, a Taurus SHO, and a lone '89 Civic that held its own

If our cars don't get destroyed in an auto cross event then either the course wasn't setup well or the other drivers weren't that good. It doesn't matter how many mods come oyt for our cars. They are not going to change the weight or the size of the car.

Yes I'm one of those people that can drive a maxima well. I pretty much won every local event I competed in last year. But at Nationals I got my @ss kicked. Even if I would have drove the best I could would have finished ~13th out of 60+ cars. I believe that 13th was about 4 sec out of the lead. In autocrossing where .1 seconds seperate 1st - 3rd a 4 second loss is an @ss kicking.

Last year my goal was to with in 1 sec at each event of Jason Tipple who won nationals in 2001 and came in 2nd in 2002. I knew if that I was better than 95% of the other drivers

You'll have a lot of fun autocrossing if your try it. Good luck next year. I thing I might try track racing next year.

That's my plan in 2-3 years after I give up on the autox. Right now I don't want to add the cage and gut the grocery getter just yet. Just Tein's for now

Oh Aaron, thanks for the tire tips. Running 225 42lb / 205 36lb helped my rotation greatly. Hopefully next year we can run against each other.
