Custom harness bar??

Since I'm getting racing seats, I would like to use racing harness the correct way. Anyone ever thought about getting one custom made?

I spoke to Adam from speedware motorsports. They can make a nice stainless steel one for us. The problem I'm in VA and they are in Seattle Washington.

I believe Sparco and Lokar makes similar bar for Honda/Acuras. Anyone else interested in something like this?

I have considered it. I may get one made sometime soon, a friend of mine can custom build cages and roll bars at his shot. So a harness bar shouldn't be too much trouble. But if you get one done sooner and need buyers, I'd probably be in.

Shadow, can you give me some ballpark numbers on a cage through your friend?

I'm looking for something like this one:
http://www.volvospeed.com/Mods/rollcage.htm

I want to meet the SCCA requirements an such, but I also don't want it to be a complete intrusion into the cabin like the all-out racing cages.. something like this one would be great. not much intrusion, yet gets the job done.

Yeah, I'm going by there tomorrow for some work, so I'll show him the link and see if he can give me a ballpark figure for something similar.

Hey Tony-

i had a harness bar, pretty much the worse thing you can do, in case of a roll over- cuz then you're pinned in the seat-

its ok for Auto-X but not recommended for Road Racing...

what i would do is put in a half cage-, basically have the pipes come up the B pillar, and up and go back toward the back seat, following the ceiling and have it enter the trunk area, as close as to the rear shock mount as possible-

then run a diagonal beam from top Driver Bpillar to bottom of passenger pillar and then have your harness loop there-

i'd never run full harnesses on the street...

also watch out for speedware- they messed up my sparco bracket order.. twice... im still contemplating what to do about it..

A lot of people use them, but I also subscribe to this philosophy. A harness without a roll bar is not a safe setup -- especially for road racing. Roll overs at HPDEs are not uncommon, so if you plan to track your car, invest in a good roll bar. Also, if you plan to continue to drive it on the street, get some good padding (NOT pipe insulation) -- your unhelmeted head contacting the roll bar in a street incident would be unfortunate.
