Tips for first autocross
Tips for first autocross
I am going to run my first autocross and was wondering if anyone had some tips for driving, car setup, etc. My suspension is all stock and I have Nitto NeoGen tires. The track is going to be a small one in a parking lot.
hook up with some of the veterans there and enjoy the fun.
Namely bryan and Kay ****inson in the silver 350Z if you're going to the OKC events..
actually.. don't learn from them.. they're crazy. fast but crazy. (tell 'em I said hi!)
there's tons of stuff listed in this forum for advice on going to an auto X.. things to take, tire pressures, etc etc.
also check www.okscca.org for info.

Go through your first (or first few) runs slower so that you get a good idea of how the track goes. Most first timers usually go too fast and end up off course.
Also, talking to someone that's done it a lot of times will help out a lot. They'll give you a lot of pointers. A good idea is to have someone ride with you the first couple runs so that you learn what to do. Once you get that down, you can start bringing down your times.
The first time I ran, I ended up with a time around 70 seconds. At the end of the day, I got it down to 61, which isn't bad for a large 4 door sedan. It'll be a blast.

It's been mentioned, but I agree that either riding with some who is experienced, or having them ride with you is very valuable. I also agree that trying to take the course too fast is a common beginner fault. I did that when I started. When I decided I would let off a bit and just find the right lines I lost time just because my driving was more smooth and followed the correct lines. All the mods in the world can't equal good driving.
