Front Sway Bar Bushing on 5th Gen: How-To...

Hey Auto-Xers,

the 5th gen forum is lame and people find more importance in LED tails and fog bulbs. i think you guys might enjoy this more. it's obviously not the biggest add-on, but it's something for those who are slowly upgrading their bushings.

the link is to the install for the energy suspension front sway bar bushing set.
in fact, if you go higher up in my directory, you should see motor mount and subframe pictures.

link is: http://polo.lxanyc.com/2002MaximaSE/.../FrontSwayBar/

Marco, you know we're not all lame....did you ask ES if they needed a FSB bushing tester for the early 5th gens with the smaller FSB?

because you know I'd rather have these than any LED tails

Hey Polo,

Great write up, something I plan on doing. What's the diff between the 23mm and 22mm? What is stock?

Can you tell a big difference?

22mm is for GXE/GLE models, 23mm is for SE models, which have a slightly thicker FSB. The difference is not night and day, but it does tighten up the front end a little bit. It's a cheap and easy mod, and that makes it worthwhile. Every little bit counts.

the only reason i can't say whether i can tell a difference or not is because i've had various susp. setups, from coilovers slammed to springs, and then motor mounts, then subframe, and then FSB. as soon as weather permits, i'll be doing the trailing arm and control arm bushings.

essentially, the FSB should hold the wheels firmer to the ground when in turns, especially when you hit bumps. i know that before, when i used to take exits off expressways, and i hit a bump, the car would skip around. i dont' anymore, but that may be a combination of springs AND the FSB Bushings.

i promised myself that this season i'd install the trailing and control arm. it will be done, write-up and all.

yeah, that polo.lxanyc.com link was a generic link since my friend owns lxanyc.com. i went ahead and purchased digitalpolo.com, so most links floating around should be replaced with that if you want it to work.

don't order them from SCO, they don't have them in stock and would back order them only once you placed your order.

I ordered mine in February ... still haven't received them...

Ya, I got them, but only on May 3rd. The order was placed on February 28th.

So if you guys will be ordering anything from them, make sure that they actually have the product.

What are the torque specs for the bolts that hold FSB bushings?

^^^ My haynes manual said 36 to 42 ft pds.

Did the Maxima SE already come with polyurethane bushings? I assumed they were rubber, but when I took my old ones off, they look/feel exactly like the ones from ES. The ES ones did sit a bit higher (1/4 inch) when I went to put the hat back on after setting them.

If the old were polyurethane too, what is the advantage of the ES bushings?
