Running Directional Tires Backwards

After quite a few autocrosses on my kuhmo 711s the passenger side tires are wearing noticeably faster than the drivers side. i was thinking about swapping the left and right wheels for the next autocross(if the course favors left turns) even tho they are directional and should stay on thier side. would this be bad for the tires, i was under the impression that the directional tread patterns were mainly for rain driving and noise reduction, both of which dont really matter at an autocross

you mean take them to a tire shop and have them swapped onto the other side wheels?

When I bought my car, one of the Falkens on it was actually backwards.....didn't even notice it for about a week after!

no i mean just swap my rims from one side to the other so the tire will be running backwards

swapping the tires on the rims is too much effort for $50 tires

...or figure out why one side is wearing faster than the other (I don't have that problem with my directional tires)....

gdmaxse right click on the smilie and select properties....there is a ton of them out there. Irish told me about another site called smiliesftw.com (I think) a while ago.

so....are you gonna make it out to this one? Get the "Mid-Atlantic-Top-3" together at the same event for the first time? None of the local 5th gens has even come close to any of us so far

We need to get a 6th gen to come out and run. That way, I won't feel like the biggest car at every event

I will see what she says when she gets back from my family reunion that I could only take 1 day off for because my boss was in Italy and no one knows how much vacation I have........truthfully I didn't even ask, I just made sure the health coverage started before my severance coverage ended.

The tread is there to help deal with water. If you're running slicks in the rain and you get into some standing water the tires will hydroplane (ride on top of the water losing contact with the road surface) as there's nowhere for the water to go. Tire treads gives the water somewhere to go so the raised sections of the tread can remain in contact with the road.

Directional tires are designed to displace the water more effectivly than a conventional tire. It pushed the water out from the center to the edges. If you run them backwards you'll go the opposide and force water ot the center section, reducing grip.

Running the tires backwards in dry conditions is fine, but they may make more noise than usual.
