What is your opinion on the Ultimate Suspension Setup....

Hey sup guys, I don't really post much in AutoX but just wondering what everyone's own opinion on setups are.

Just want to know the setup in detail.
If they have tried the setup.
Driving Experience.
Etc.

JIC FLT-A2s, F/R strut bars, front lower tie bar, stage 1 and 2 subframe connectors, entire polyurethane bushing kit, stillen rear sway bar. That would be a pretty sweet setup I feel.

You could probably do better with custom stuff like some $5000 Penske remote reservoir shocks, etc, but I think the setup above is about as good as it gets using parts made for the max.

the current setup is working pretty well, but still understeers a bit more than I'd like at the limit.. and understeer going into a corner at 130mph is BAD.

17x8 wheels w/ 245/40/17 Kumho MX on them
Custom GC/Koni type setup.
Custom front strut mounts, shortened struts.
BlehmCo Stage II LTB
Otto FSTB
BlehmCo RSTB
BlehmCo heim joint rear suspension
ES bushings in front on modified control arms
BlehmCo bump steer kit
Warpspeed SFCs, stage I & II
foamed frame rails
some other goodies here and there that I forget.

What did you do to make the 245 40 17's to fit?

Larry, I bolted them on. still plenty of room in there with the Kumho MX.. I should be able to fit 255s if I roll the rear fenders and put a 2mm spacer (err washers on the studs) in back.

Pat, yeah the foaming helped... less road noise most of all, but I did notice some additional chassis stiffening after.

Matt, what is involved with foaming the rails? Is this something that can be done on the 5th gen? Any pics of what is involved?

Just curious would a narrower tire (235) in the rear help dial in a little more oversteer?

You should correct understeer by increasing front grip, not decreasing rear grip.

NISMOPower: No RSB is needed if the rest of the car is set up properly. It will turn in great, and gently rotate a little more if you lift off the throttle.

foam in the frame rails can be done on any car with a chassis with empty space inside. Search for the 300zx project done by (i think) sport compact car. You have to drill some holes and fill the space with a special expanding foam. NO cheapo foam in a can is not the stuff. This stuff costs as much as SFC.

And the foam can go further forward and backward than the SFC's can cover. If prepped properly foam could be put in the rails from bumper to bumper. The only reason I haven't done this yet is because I don't have SFC's. Welding onto metal with a foam behind it isn't a great idea. Especially cause its more than likely very flamable.

Matt, how far did you extend the foam? Also, does it end up weighing alot when dry? Any chance you weighed before and after?

First off, I'd like to say I'm glad I found this forum! I've got a bunch of questions and so far I've found a ton of answers, some that I didn't even know I was looking for. I started reading this thread to find out how SFC's might affect handling compared with a RSB, but then got hooked into this foam thing.

I've got a 2002 SE and I do a lot of freeway driving and am interested in anything I can do to make the cabin quieter. This foam idea caught my attention, so I'd like to understand more. How much quieter does it make the car? Who would I go see to have something like this done (I don't think my local garage does this kind of stuff...I could be wrong)? Any other ideas?

I realize that this isn't exactlt a fresh thread, nor does foam have anything to do with AutoX. I'm too much of a newbie to be allowed to start my own thread, and I searched for "foam" and "frame rail" and couldn't find any other posts about this, so any help would be appreciated.

Thanks!
JW
