Auto-x tire advice

I've already gotten some input from Matt B., but wanted to find out what everyone else is runnig for tires.

rims: 17x7.5/17x8

track type: lower speed auto-x for this season probably <50-60mph topout
not worried about high-speed auto-x or road course.

price: cheap as possible.....probably will get about 5-6 days tops this summer, so can't justify and expensive comp tire.....

EXPERTS: suggestions on tire size and tire brand????

I'm running "R" compounds this year..... however I had very good luck with Kumho MXs it would be a toss up between those and the Falken RT-615 ... tire size depends on the rim..... try and keep the rim on the upper limit of the tire size .... ie don't stuff a big tire on a small rim.... performance won't be as good as the proper size tire.... 7.5 8.0 I would look at 225s or 235s ...... I'm running a 17x9 with a 255

Somewhat depends on your class limits but how bout

STS
Good - 16x7.5 300ZX rims with 225/50 Kumho 712 rubber < $500
Good - your rims with 225/45 Falken RT-615 rubber $550ish
Better - 16x7.5 300ZX rims with 225/45 Hankook R-S2 rubber $550ish

STX
Good - your rims with Hankook R-S2 245/45 < $500
Very Good - your rims with Ecsta MX 245/40 about $550ish
Better - 16x8 300ZX rims (or similar) with Hankook R-S2 245/45 $650 ish

Hell of a deal on these I just found

For the time being I'm doing local (capital racing club) auto-x, not SCCA....since I am totally screwed for SCCA because of my stage II LTB.

As to 16's...can't happen - I have the 6th gen rotors/calipers on my max, which don't even clear my stock 17's (why I'm using the infiniti rims)

I recommend the same as what Bejay said, but change the sizes to fit your wheels.

thanks guys....just did some research on the Hankook R-S2s and they seem to be getting the good word. Helps that 225/45/17 are only $110 each on edgeracing.com (see if I can find them cheaper locally first, of course).....

Dunno if any of you has used them (?) or are speaking from reviews/secondhand info. If not, I will be the test donkey I suppose

planning to order them tomorrow...first use will be the 9th....

Hope you can get em. Word has it that some suppliers and Hankook are already low on stock after initial orders. 4/9 is the first date in Atlanta and Chicago for feedback on these too from what I'm reading. Good luck.
