Tire/rim sizing

Does anyone know where I can find info on Rim requirements for tire sizes?
Specificly I want to know the largest tire I can put on my 16x7.5 K-1's.
There are some 245/45's that I would love to get, but I can't seem to find what size rim is required

Thanks

if you're looking for auto-x tires, you don't want the "largest" tires. You actually want a narrower tire that is more toward the lower width limit of the rim....this will make your car handle better. Going wider will give you sloppy handling.

for a 16x7.5 I would suggest no wider than a 225 width.

For example: on my 18x8 street wheels I run 235/40/18,

but with my 17x7.5/17x8 (staggered) auto-x wheels I run 225/45/17, which is ideal for a wheel this size IMO.....

245 will leave you with some extremely sloppy handling and sidewall roll....width may be good for drag, but going that wide on a 7.5" rim will suck...

This is now null because I just test fitted my 16's and there is no way they are fitting over my brakes anymore, I was hoping with spacers I could make them fit...

I am not going to Auto-x my maxima anymore, though I may do some track days.
Interesting you say that you run only a 235 on your 18x8's because I was just talking to another orger that had 225 (KDW's I believe) on his 18x8's and they are WAY undersized for his rim, sidewalls all overstretched out he actually rolled over enough in a corner to touch rim. from the looks of it I would have said 235 would still have been way undersized for that rim unless BF's run small.

I guess I will have to unload the rims on someone and get some 17x8's.
Do you know of any sites that have a listing of reccomended rim size/tire sizes? I am having a hard time finding that sort of list.

E- I think that race rubber usually has MUCH stiffer sidewalls than street tires. So you should be fine.
You and I really need to get togather, go out for a pint or something and catchup on happenings. I was hoping you were going to show at the BBQ on the 15th but alas you did not.

It all depends on the specific tire...some have a wider tread than others, even if they are both "technically' the same size. In the 18x8 that I run street, 235 was the "middle" recommended size according to Toyo (I have Proxes 4 on them, and the minimum recommended was 225). I've not once had any rolling over problems, and they aren't a particularly stiff sidewall.

On my 17x7.5/8 track wheels (G35 coupe 17's) the 225 was the minimum recommended for the 8" wheel, and median for the 7.5" wheel for the R-S1's that I run.

If you go to the home site of almost any tire manufacturer, it will tell you what rim sizes (max, min, and median) you should use for any given size of tire. Also, www.edgeracing.com (where I get my tires) has those same specs listed for most of the tires they sell. I don't think tire rack does though...

Race rubber does have extremely stiff sidewalls but also requires wider rims then street based to set the bead properly & such. Take a 225/50/16 size for instance. Most street tires like 6-8" rims while Hoosiers take a 7-9" rim for the same size.

Sounds like I'd be doing well to look for a 215/50/15 race tire then.. - again, on 15x6.5's

I wonder if the victo's come in that size... checking....no- I would have to go either 225 or 205. looks like 205's are exactly right for 6.5 rims... but dammit, I want a bigger patch!!!!!!!!!!!!!

suggestions?

Too bad the Max is so heavy; I just found a Prelude seller on the east coast with a set of light 15x7's with Kumho V710's for $500. I know a local B14 driver running well on 205's but that's 100-200lbs lighter than us. He's selling his 205/50/15 for like $200. http://www.autocross.us/forum/viewtopic.php?t=674

About race rubber on stock rims. From what I can remember the stock wheels sizes on the 2000 - 2003 Honda 2000 are 16x6.5 front and 16x7.5 in the rear. Guess what size race tires most A-stock s-2000 drivers have? They run 225/50/16 front and 245/45/16 rear. With race tires the wider the better in most cases, as long as it will fit the rim.

For street tires it's different. For me 7.5" wide rim is optimal for 225mm tire but can fit a 235mm. 8" rim is optimal for 235mm but a 245mm will also fit well.

just my $.02

No that would have been Mathel's BBQ at Coyote point last month.
You still need to tell me your SCCA story.
