LMAO you gotta see this
Whoa, okay. If you were just making a jab at another member, I'm sorry to have blown it up.
My track experience is quite limited, yes. I also got really wrapped up in making a point (cuz I hate people who jerk off to drag times and think that's all there is to a car), and I worded my point badly. But I'm sticking by my opinion on the basis of something I will illustrate with the following example.
Let's take two cars: A 400hp Mitsubishi Lancer Evo 8, driven by a novice driver who can handle the power decently but only has basic track sensibilities, and a highly tuned 300hp VW Corrado driven by a highly skilled racer.
In a drag race, you have to admit it's hard to say for sure who would win. No matter which way you argue it, the point is that the Evo's AWD and extra power would go a long way toward making up for the driver's disadvantage in skill.
In a road course race, it depends on which course they race but the Evo driver will have a hard time staying ahead of the Corrado. On a course with long straights, the Evo might have a chance; on a tighter course, the Corrado would be able to take it.
In an autocross event, the Corrado could destroy the Evo because of the driver's better car control and ability to know the course, as you mentioned.
That's all I'm trying to say. I'm not trying to imply that skill doesn't matter, or that the skills involved are any more or less valid. I'm just saying that in drag racing, and to a lesser extent road racing, having a better car can cover up for poor skills, whereas that is almost impossible in autoX. Sorry it came out badly.

Don't forget, there are extremely few straights in autoX, and what straights there are are very short. It's almost all corners, with no time for your car to settle from one corner to the next. That means there's no room to fudge things, and no room to just let your car catch you up if you make a mistake. If you don't pick your lines and time everyting extremely intelligently, you're just screwed.

I have yet to see someone get hurt in auto-x (hopefully I will never see it). I would agree that slower cars are for auto-x. I get killed in auto-x my Miatas, but I could overtake them on a road course.
Also, I normally hit 40-50 mph during each auto-x meet, so there's usually a few straights.
AND really sucky Mini-S drivers can still beat me in my Max during auto-x, so I don't think auto-x requires the most skill either.
Spec racing on a road course requires the most skill, all the cars are mostly the same.
