VQ30 vs. VQ35 in autocross...

well, not really. The 3.0 won out in the end

....I did, however, beat most of the Evo 7's and 8's that were present

they have open registration for non-members a week prior to the event...

running as a non-member at the Manassas event would cost $35.....joining the club is $25 and members run for $25...so for $15 extra you can make sure you get a spot.

If I decide to run in that event, I could also bring you as a guest ($35) if Jason isn't running, or if he joins.

If you want to join, contact Ed Chan at capitaldriving@yahoo.com...they locked membership last month, but I think it's back open again.

I've given up on SCCA in this area...they are such a clusterfck (I think the last one at FedEx had like 400-500 cars there), and you only get a few runs....I prefer the smaller CDC events, because they are a friendly group...it's like hanging out with a bunch of friends (even if you don't know anyone)...

I also hate the SCCA classing system that basically screws me having a stage II LTB and sticks me in with cars that can whoop my *** even if driven poorly. ....

Once my Triumph is back on the road I'll go back to SCCA since I can be competitive.....

it's an indexed system...uses some kind of mathematical formula to "index" you time. The best analogy I can think of is a handicap in golf. Basically, as you improve your driving (or your car) you can score higher on the index. Your first few events are for "establishing" an index and then it compounds itself at every event.

I wish I could explain how it works exactly, but I'm not sure. But basically, at my last event I finished 36th overall, but it was one of my fastest days to date relative to other (faster) cars' times, so my indexed ranking was 8th. 36th is quite high for a car the size of the maxima on a small course like that...alot of smaller heavily-modded sportscars, so finishing about mid-pack, combined with my index, usually gets me in the top 10 or 15...

wierd system, but it really evens out the playing field. It makes it more important that you improve as a driver and improve your car relative to the "you of last year" than for you to have the "fastest" car out there. ...

never heard a complaint about the index system at ANY event....I can't say the same for SCCA groupings....

This is the closest organization down here http://www.brr-scca.org/ The VT car club runs with them, the only kid I knew that was in it recently got arrested for stealing night vision goggles from work so I have no more connections. Looks like the next open event is in October. Up next though is a time trial at Mont Tremblant in Canadia.

after your first event, you get an index....then the index is adjusted with all events after that......so you get no index adjustment at the first event, but you do at all events thereafter....
